My 4 yr old Cat Maki, died this 3rd of november.. I was downstairs at 1 pm in the afternoon when a watery fluid started falling down from upstairs. (our house is made of wood so liquid stuff can pass through easily). I quickly went upstairs and checked the room where it came from. I opened the door and saw our cat Maki lying on the floor with all the watery stuff coming out from his genitals mouth. I called his name and he didn't move. I am only 15 yrss old and I really didn't know what to do. No one was there in the house except for me. He can move his legs a little at first, but then after a few minutes he just stopped moving. His eyes were dilated and he is not breathing. That's when I knew he was dead.

November 1 -
My brother, who sleeps in that room where our cat died, saw him under his bed. My brother was in a hurry so he didn't bother to pick up our cat and bring him out of his room before he leave. Only our brother knew he was there and the rest of us didn't know. He said that Maki can climb its way out of his room so he didn't worry. (My brother is away for a week and he closed the door but he didn't lock it)

November 2 -
My mom checked her plants that night, (yes her plants are inside my brother's room because there's a lot of sunlight there). but she said she didn't notice Maki inside the room.  There was no one.
(we checked the plants if Maki tried to eat the leaves and got poisoned but No, he did not)

no one really had a clue what happened to him before his death.

He had a history of peeing blood. Our father isn't a vet but he's a doctor. He gave Maki medications, he said it has something to do with his liver.
after days of taking the medicine, he stopped peeing blood and went back to normal again. This was I think 2 years ago?
but i don't know if his death has something to do with this.
We've never taken him to the vet because he looked just fine. Although I know, We should have.
He also doesn't want to be held but he is a sweet cat. He sleeps with us sometimes and rub his face in our palms but he really didn't want to be held. Only for a few seconds and he will start struggling.

What might have been the cause of his death? I'm very guilty for not paying much attention to him while he was still alive. I still cry when I think of him.
Could it be dehydration? Or because he was locked up for two days and didn't eat? Could he be hiding?  help pls

:'( I miss him.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Maki, @Cameelacat.

It sounds like he may have had a heart attack, but it's really hard to know these things.

Try to just remember the good memories with Maki, and all the things that he did to make you smile.

Don't feel guilty about thinking you did not pay so much attention to him, because we all feel like this, and think back when our animals die, and wish we had done some things differently.

It never seems that there is enough time, because their lives are shorter, and even if we are given time, we don't always spend it always with them.

Our cats understand that, too, and love us and don't want us to be sad, for too long.

It's okay to cry when you think about him, but in time you will smile, thinking about him, because I think that your Maki would want you to remember the special memories you made together.

If you feel like posting some photos of Maki, you can do that here.

Once again, my condolences for your loss. May your sadness lessen day by day.

I truly feel for you, the NOT knowing is far harder on the heart than knowing for certain how our loved one died. You can do nothing to change the past. It is truly unfortunate that someone did not notice the missing cat and go looking for him, please, if any animal disappears, check all closets and behind all closed doors, inside and out. Being locked up for two days should not have been a factor in his death, many have been locked up longer, but those plants concern me, liquid from the mouth could indicate poisoning. But there is no way to determine the cause of death for sure, he could have had a seizure, or a heart problem, but one thing is for sure, you loved him and he knew that, so I hope you take comfort in the fact that you gave him a home and the love he needed. He would never want you to be so sad when remembering him, he loved you too much for that. Please try to learn from this experience and know that the bond you formed with him can never be taken from you.He left you a legacy of love and would be honored if you eventually passed that legacy on to another little soul who so desperately needs a home and someone to love. RIP little one, you were loved and will be held forever in a loving heart, sleep tight sweet prince!
