Hi...I'm hoping someone here can help me. After my kittens were playing last week I noticed the baby's eye was tearing and she wouldn't open it. I took her to the vet within an hour and the vet said the cornea had a slight scratch. She gave me Vetropolycin ointment which I applied twice a day. After 3 days I saw no improvement so I took her back and the vet changed the medicine to Neo/Poly B, which I had to do 3x a day. It is now Saturday night, I've treated her with the drops for 3 days and I see no improvement. I emailed a picture of her eye to the vet, and now I wait. Panic is starting to set in, so I am reaching out to all you wonderful people who are always so helpful. She is vaccinated, it is not herpes. She is 11 weeks old. Has anyone here had experience with scratched corneas? How long do they take to heal? The vet told me that I should see improvement by now but I don't. :-(

I am a human doctor, not a vet but a corneal scratch should heal over weeks, depending on the depth of the scratch and its length, and whether there is infection or not.  Your vet has given the kitten an antibiotic ointment to prevent any infection from developing and there is very little else that can be done at this stage.  I doubt that even an ophthalmic surgeon can do more.

Keep in touch with your vet and don't worry so much, after all the vet said that it was only a slight scratch..

My husband had one and he had to wear a contact lens for about a week.  Other wise whenever he blinked his eyelid hit the scratch and opened it a bit and hurt it.  I've read that with cats a Vet will sometimes stitch the third eyelid closed to accomplish the same thing.   Did your Vet mention this?
