Hello. My cat recently vomited up a little liquid/bile and I noticed it had two little worms in it. They moved around when touched (with a glove). From looking on google they appeared to be roundworm.
This was at 5am mind you. I had some left over Pro Labs dewormer and gave him one. 23mg Praziquantel and then went back to bed. Of course I'm an idiot and only realized later it doesn't treat roundworm.
I called me vet asking if I could come pick up some roundworm medication without brining him in since he was just there not long ago. They said okay and ended up giving me Drontal which is of course Praziquantel/Pyrantel Pamoate.
I asked the vet and told her I already dosed him 23mg this morning. She said to wait a day then dose him again.
My obvious concern is over-dosing him and the severity of the roundworm. He looks okay. Good weight, shiny coat. Seems healthy all over, but I read once a cat vomits roundworm, it's a little more serious than just pooping them out and Strongid would be better suited for him.
Well over the phone the receptionist tells me they do not have Strongid, only Drontal.
I called Petco and the tech said they use Strongid-T but I'd have to wait a day because I already gave him Praziquantel, but they are closed tom. So now I'm most likely going to use the Drontal, but was just curious if it seemed right to give another dose of praziquantel again 24 hours later.
I'm leaning towards toe Drontal tom, but my main issue is over-dosing and the roundworm vomit, not just pooped (that I have yet to see either, this is the first case). I understand one Vet said it was okay, and also a Tech Vet, but I'm just curious if anyone had an experience like this with some advice.
Thanks.
