So I am not sure where to ask this question, and I know each cat is different but: Kit had her surgery yesterday and we are going to retrieve her in a little while.  I've not had kittens before where WE got them spayed and had to care for them immediately afterwards.  Yes, I know the vet will probably give instructions, but I want to hear from people in the trenches: what can I reasonably expect as far as taking care of her post-surgery?

Will she have to take it easy? I do wonder if her personality will change...I also am scared to death that she might have been traumatized by staying overnight at the vet :(  Any good tips on keeping her from messing with the stitches? I don't know if they will give her a collar or not, but I can't see her tolerating that, lol.

So, just any stories, tips, "this is what happened with my kitten" stuff you feel like sharing....BTW, Kit is approx. 7 months old.

Her personality won't change at least long term.  She may be a little quieter for a day or two but then again she may not.  I have not had to put a collar on a kitty after a spay but it may be necessary.  If she starts constantly cleaning the area then she will need a collar, my kitty that I have now left her incision alone.

Thanks Denise.  Well our discharge instructions were to keep her calm for 10- 14 days....It was all I could do to keep from saying "umm, you do know she's a KITTEN, right?"....not sure how we are going to "keep her calm" for 2 weeks, rofl.

Her stitches are internal I'm told.  She got a pretty small incision mark on her belly.  She's acting "reserved" at least for now: ate, and is resting on her favorite blankie for now.  No collar, we are to watch the incision for the same kind of stuff you would in humans; if she starts licking it, picking at it, then we have to collar.

I am thankful for the vet leading us to a place where we got our spay certificate for $85, as the itemized list of everything done would have been $250.

Glad to have my sweetie back in the house!  :)
