We had two cats die within the last year from heart condition. The last one a few weeks ago was a huge shock. Wills was gone within a week.

So the huz is talking about adopting a bonded pair. The rescue we have been adopting from has several pairs. Can I just tell you guys that I'm hesitant. I know that what happened to us was just sad coincidence but I'm actually afraid.

And reading here about FIP (?) i get worried all over again about another disease. I know this site is just a microcasm of cats and cat owners and that there are millions of cats who never develop this awful disease but my head wants to explode just thinking about this.

Our foster dog will most likely be adopted this weekend ( I'm a sad panda about this) so i know husband will start looking. Our house will just be too lonely without pets.

I'm just doing a verbal dump trying to sort out my feelings and I figure you guys would probably know best how I'm feeling.

If you read all this you deserve a cookie lol

Were the two cats you lost from the same litter?  There is a genetic component to some heart disease in cats.  I haven't had to deal with it.  I have an IBD kitty that would get very sick with flares until we got control of it.  I almost lost him to Fatty Liver.  It is hard.  My IBD kitty was the first cat that I had that was seriously ill when he had Fatty Liver.  I had just always assumed that cats were very healthy, the whole nine lives thing, but now I know better.

No not from same litter. Peter was our Persian and we knew about his grade 1 murmur. We had him three years and just found him dead one night. Heart attack. Stroke? I wish i would have had necropsy done. Two months later we got Wills who was only 2 ( Peter age was always in question. He had an eye enucliated and had many teeth pulled before we got him. He could have been anywhere from 5 to 8years).

Now I found out that a cat from same rescue just passed from a heart condition. I reading too much into all this aren't I?

Yes I think you are reading too much into this.  I know with clusters of human illness they spend lots of money on studies that are done by people with advanced degrees to figure out the cause.  Even after a long exhaustive study they often find no cause.  Things like what has happened with three cats from the same rescue sometimes just happen.

When I lost my baby kit 2 1/2 years ago that night I told my husband I was. It getting another cat anytime soon. We already had a senior cat that was healthy. But the next morning my house felt lonely. I didn't know what to do. I had had a newborn kit and had to do so much for him that that day I started looking for a kitten that day. 2 days later I adopted my Alice from my aunts cats litter. She helped me heal. That's what cats do they help us. So long story short get the new pair and love them with all your heart.

You just have PTSD. It'll be ok. I know how you feel, though, as my Tater Tot has been diagnosed with IBD. I'm worried about him getting cancer and diabetes. I tried being in a group for cats with IBD, but the posts ended up scaring me more. So, I no longer go there unless I have a question. What you are experiencing is perfectly normal. I have felt that way when one of my cats has passed. But you can't worry about what might happen. Just enjoy the present. And getting that bonded pair may help you work through your grief.
