Do you think this is a rodent ulcer?

Hello there,

My little guy's name is Moe, and Moe has a large bump along the bottom of his lip.

I got him about a year ago, and he's had this off-and-on since then.

I took him to the vet in the summer, and they gave him Simplicef, which made it go away.

It has since come back, and it obviously is bothersome to me.

He shows no physical discomfort or pain from it; he eats like a pig, doesn't experience any visible mood change or unhappiness- no fatigue.

He just simply has this bump.

It KIND OF looks like a rodent ulcer, but I am not sure, and my vet initially didn't know either and wanted to take a biopsy of it.

Is this a rodent ulcer? Note also that the discoloration is not part of the bump- Moe has a brown birthmark on his lip that expands due to the bubble.

I have tried switching him off of seafood, switching to soy-free food, switching his bowl from glass to plastic, plastic glass, etc. Nothing seems to really fix it, but, as I said, the Simplicef DID make it go away previously, alleviating my concern a bit.

But, what do you think?

It looks like to could be a rodent ulcer.  One thing about his food and water dishes...NO plastic.  You want to use glass or ceramic or something other than plastic, but make sure there are absolutely no cracks in whatever you are using that can harbor any bacteria.  Wash those dishes every day, after every meal if possible.  Not only switch him off soy and fish, but also corn and wheat.

Antibiotics will usually help with rodent ulcers, but they CAN come back...usually do

Here's a pretty good thread about them:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/273471/do-granulomas-rodent-ulcer-come-back

Welcome to THECATSITE, it is a great site!

I don't know about rodent ulcers, in fact, I had to look it up and learned something new, but I just wanted to say I hope your little guy can get an answer.   Moe is simply handsome!  I love him!  Is he part Siamese?  I ask because of the blue eyes and he looks a little like my Siamese/calico girl Speedy (in the shape of his face).   All the best, from Marianne(raysmyheart) and Speedy!
