Hello everyone. I've already posted about this but didn't get much back. So I'm posting for a second time in hopes that you all might have experienced this/or your cat may have have similar symptoms? In which case it would really help me and my kitty.

My cat first started out with a UTI in June, he got medication and this cleared up in no time and he was urinating again. Then shortly after this UTI issue he began curling his toe when walking... we brought him back to vets, he said it may be because of the UTI his muscles have been strained. Then fast forward to now and he's slowly gotten worse. Now dragging his lower half of body most the time, and going toilet is getting progessively harder for him. It's almost though his leg is stiff and his balance goes sometimes :( he doesn't seem to be in any pain, no crying but it's obvious he's quite fed up of not being able to walk like normal. Like I said this happened so suddenly and he was an active cat only 3 months ago! Now he is the opposite. He eats normally and purrs when I stroke him and give him attention, Another strange thing is that he sometimes falls over and his tail seems to fall with him? He also sometimes licks things a lot like metal, or fabrics or painted surfaces... Please any of your thoughts or personal experiences may help us. I love him so much and he's such a gentle boy, I want to cure him but i and the vets so far have no idea what's wrong with him. His front legs are very strong and work fine it's just his left hind leg :-( help!!

This is him wearing his little socks I love him so much[emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]10084[/emoji]️ :(

Only thing I can think of is possibly blood clot. I know it can happen in hind end.

We brought him to another vets on Wednesday and he ruled out a blood clot, so I don't think it is that :(

Did you mention the pica to the vet? Seems neuroligical at this point.

Disc problem? Have you tried holistic vet? Massage therapy, chiro, and acupuncture?

At this point it just is so unclear to us we have visited the vet so many times and he would always just say "massage his muscles/legs".. were going to try a injection of cortisone. I've noticed the cat walks better when I gently hold his tail upright not pull it but just gently hold it up, very strange and such a heartbreaking situation to see your cat suffering. I wouldn't wish this on anyone else I hope that he gets better, thank you for your comments :(

It is heartbreaking. They hide pain so well too. I just wish they could talk.

Hi lulu95 (and, welcome to the forum !)

This is very curious indeed.

I went back to your very first post about this and found a little more detail:
...Smoky was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection about 4 months ago. We took him to the vets as he couldn't pee, the vet emptied his bladder and advised us...he had crystals in his urine...[then] he was fine...then we noticed when he was walking he had began dragging his toes on his left leg when walking...we took him back to the vets [who] proceeded to inject smoky with medication which initially helped!! After this trip to the vets smoky got quite worse... we were actually quite suspicious that the vet may have dropped him as he had a chunk of fur missing from his foot area....This happened so suddenly after his infection and after so many visits to the vets with no progress we decided to go to a new vets who told us it might have been when the other vet injected him, he could have hit a nerve thus damaging his leg...he just can't groom his lower body...he seems to walk better when I hold his tail up for him which is so strange and makes me wonder whether he fell or was dropped damaging his tail
That seems to be a more fine-tuned summary of what's occurred so far.

Today you said: "he sometimes falls over and his tail seems to fall with him".......I don't understand the last half of that, the 'tail falling with him'. Maybe you could explain further?

And, about this: "were going to try a injection of cortisone".....did Smoky get this or not ?

Do you know what the first injection (which helped) was ?

My own suggestion would be to first, get a complete copy of Smoky's file from the original Vet - everything that's in there - (IF they have electronic files, ask them to email that entire package to you AND IF they did X-rays, make sure they're included). Do the same with the second Vet clinic. Now, is there a cat-only clinic in your city/town? If so, get yourself an appointment with the senior Vet there...often, that will be the owner. (You need a very experienced cat-Vet for Smoky, someone with years and years of feline experience....because we know very well that Vets are not 'created equal'). Bring the other Vets' files with you (or send the email copies).

If there's no cat-only place, you might want to search for a feline 'specialist here: http://www.catvets.com/cat-owners/find-vets-and-practices   Click "More Options" and, under "Practice Type" select "Feline Only"   DON'T check the red "cat friendly" box....that's nothing but a marketing gimmick.

It will be really helpful if you bring along a written copy of your own experience and observations - perhaps what I put together (above) could be a starting model for you and you can add the updates from what you've written today (as things seem to have gotten worse). Having this on paper for the new Vet as a starting point keeps the facts and events in order and eliminates any confusion.

Let's see what you think.....

Hi there! Wow thank you for actually taking the time to go back and do that, well Smokys case is very strange indeed and I can safely say we have took him to the vets at least 10 times now with absolute no solid answer BUT he is booked in tomorrow at his new vets, where he is going to get a blood test and an injection of Cortisone. The first injection that Smoky was given was an injection of anti-inflammatory Metacam. This was to help his inflamed urinary tract and within a few days his urinating issues stopped!! It was after his urine issue in June this year, that smoky started to drag his left hind legs toes as he walked. Fast forward to now and he is so much worse, we are hoping the Cortisone helps but about the tail issue. His tail seems to be very floppy when he walks, but something new which we have noticed is that when we gently hold his tail upright Smoky walks without falling over onto his side of his lower body! The vets we are going to tomorrow isn't a cat specialist but he has dealt with many cats specifically over the years and he is such a great vet. Thank you so much for your long reply and I will check out that link, I'd also like to mention that we have written out a looong list of events for the newer current vet via email, and he is investigating further. Let's hope tomorrow's visit proves helpful to finding out what's wrong with him :(
