Hey, I posted a thread about 2 weeks ago which you can read here, and this is a kind of follow-up to that story.

Long post short - we had some kitties rescued and up for adoption but they got panleukopenia from the vets. 2 of them passed away sadly, and now the other 2 are at home isolated and under surveillance as we are worried they might have it as well. None of them were vaccinated and we partly blame ourselves for the outcome of everything but nevertheless, here is my worry.

The 2 cats passed away about a week ago. Right when we found out they had panleukopenia, we started giving immunology boosters and antibiotics to the other 2 and as they were already separated from the others, we thought they might get away with the virus. Needless to say, we have 5 cats of our own so you can imagine the full disinfection we did to the house, washed and dried everything, used the steam jet, bleached all the floors and surfaces, and we STILL keep the places that the sick cats were closed with no access.

We recently did a full blood test on the 2 kitties that survived - Sassy and Luna, and they both tested positive for panleukopenia. Sassy had 1/320 antibodies and Luna 1/2560. Luna has her glands swollen and we're still treating her with antibiotics and metacam, but both of them are not showing any of the other cats symptoms. They have massive appetite, they don't have vomits or diarrhoea, and are in all behaving just like regular cats. The thing that stood out for me on the blood tests was that they both had their leukocytes normal.

I guess my question is, does that mean that they've passed the virus? Or that it hasn't started yet? The vet told us the incubation period was about 2 weeks (we're right at the middle of it), and it's obvious they have the virus - especially Luna who the vets said is passing it right now due to the high level of antibodies, but can they pass it without showing any of the regular symptoms (fever, diarrhoea, vomits, loss of appetite)? They recommended us to keep them separate for the next 2 weeks as well and then we could vaccinate them and our cats to be sure it doesn't spread.

Thanks in advance.

Hi bovelvla bovelvla ::wavey:

I'm so, so sorry you had to go through this. I have no experience of panleukopenia. Giving this a bump up in the hopes that someone can answer your questions.
