Good grief...I'm very very very late AGAIN!  In my defense, I had outpatient surgery today, and my mind just wasn't in the game...SO...

Are you doing a big traditional Thanksgiving feast this year?  Or something a bit more unusual, or just skipping the whole ball of wax?

I'm doing traditional, but small, since it will just be me...well...Hekitty, but unless there is raspberry sherbet, she doesn't do people food.  I have my turkey breast, I'll do a green bean casserole, probably creamed corn, dressing, gravy and a pie...not sure what kind yet.  Have to do food I love, 'cause I'll be eating it for days.

It will be just DD and me so no big meal. I don't know what we'll have. It will go more on what she likes and is in the mood for as she is pickier than I am.

There will be some broiled or roasted chicken breast for the furkids.

Is it time to make Thanksgiving plans already? I have no idea what we're doing this year.

Hubby, myself and our 2 human kids are waiting for the fight of which side of the family gets us. Every year there's name calling and one side of family putting others side down.
We tried doing our own but no one would come as they are scared of the family.
I hate holidays!!

LOL. As a former New Yorker, I can say only in New York, right?

My family used to do a big Thanksgiving dinner with relatives who lived in the area but since most of those relatives have since passed on or have married and have their own families and in-laws, we stopped doing Thanksgiving. I think the last big dinner was at least a decade ago.

Leroy just wants raw turkey
I already have a batch of raw turkey in the freezer for him and Emma.

Not doing a thing. Could care less about turkey - I'm a vegetarian.
I'm also a vegetarian. I usually go over to my sister who lives right behind me. Everyone in the family goes these. I sent emails to my sister and brother last week and neither one replied. My sister informed me that she was much too busy to reply to my emails. I guess I will be spending Thanksgiving alone this year. I brought some mac and cheese and a tofu turkey which I may or may not bother to cook. It's not the first time I've spend holidays alone while everyone was at my sister's house right behind me. Hopefully I will still have Muffy with me. She's getting old and I don't think I will have her much longer.

This year not much.

I'm scheduled for the 2nd stage of dental implant surgery on the Tuesday before, 11/22.  Was the only date my dentist had open until January so I grabbed it. Not ideal at all but oh well.  At least I'll have more than several days to recover. I'm off from work that whole week.

My siblings are not pleased with me but I can't be bothered to care what they think.  My fiance and I were pretty much swapping each year with where we went for the day but he lost both parents this past year - and we both have no inclination to drive over 2 hours to see his daughter.  It is always calmer and more fun at my siblings events anyway (my parents are long gone).

I will either be eating soft foods together with my fiance, or maybe..maybe I might order a small meal from one of the better supermarkets nearby. I saw one for an already sliced turkey breast, with all the trimmings meant for only 2 people and it was pretty reasonable.

Well lets see...My family is back east so that leaves the husbands side. The last two that had with them , when we were still civil, on one my MIL cooked the turkey. I think for about 3 days on 400 without basting. She then opened a can of peas sat can and all on the counter threw in a tablespoon and announced if anyone wanted veggies we could microwave them. They made a huge deal about me not bringing anything. I did anyway. A pizza rustica which from the look of the pan was the only thing anyone ate.

The next one was at my psychopath narcissistic borderline personality disorder SIL who I often call the great upright ape of the eastern plains. I call her worse to her face. ( took 20 years to get that mad btw) They carved the turkey with their bare hands. Pulled the breast off and then started pulling off chunks with their bare hands passing them around.  They had turkey and about 5 pans of white rolls out of bags. I didn't take anything with me over there because I enjoy watching her be a dismal failure and I wouldn't eat food from her home unless I had a food taster and a 24 hour window for observation and then blood work.

Husband works on holidays and I won't go near their family without police protection at this point.

So no we're just blowing the whole thing off.

I was invited to my sister's for the first time in 6 years (we are trying to reconcile) An overnight sleep over and a chance to catch up.    I've never been so excited! But I can't bring my kitty. So my neighbor will be checking on him, playing, feeding and watering. And she's going to send pictures.

LOL. Thanks for a good laugh.

Growing up in England I thought our family was very dysfunctional. After 40 years in America now I'm not so sure!

Oh the goings on around here would make for a wonderful dark comedy. I call them the lost tribe from The Hills Have Eyes. They acted normal until we got married.

Well, it will just be my parents, my brother and me like usual. We do turkey, stuffing (in the turkey and not I love both my mom makes amazing stuffing!), cranberry sauce, homemade yeast rolls and homemade mashed potatoes and gravy... and we'll have snacks while the turkey cooks like chips and dip, summer sausage with cheese and crackers, celery with cream cheese, peanut butter and pimento spread. Not all together of course.
If it's not too much I'd love to make spinach artichoke dip but maybe we'll do that for Christmas instead like we did last year.

And we'll have pumpkin pie, chocolate cream pie and my mom usually makes peanut butter balls also known as buckeyes for dessert. There will be plenty of leftovers for me and my brother to take home since we don't live at home now. :)

i'm thinking i'll roast a turkey several days before Thanksgiving, then have turkey sandwiches up through Thanksgiving day. i'll portion and freeze the rest of the turkey meat. i'm also thinking i'll make a batch of carob chip cookies......

I'm also a vegetarian.
Ditto, I'm vegetarian, my daughter that lives nearby is vegan and my husband is the carnivore.
Needless to say Thanksgiving is an interesting holiday at our house but it's more about spending time together.

There are 5 of us including my youngest who will be coming home (from college) for the long weekend.  We usually get a 12 -14 lb turkey.  Enough leftovers for turkey pot pie, turkey omelets, soup and sandwiches.  I am going to miss my favorite leftover; turkey and gravy over toast.  I may have to make some cassava flour bread for the occasion.

We have our usual sides, rolls, salad, fruit salad, mashed potatoes, and dressing.  Oh and black olives!

Not sure what dessert will be yet.  My sons do not like pumpkin pie and I am gluten free.  I'm sure Kim will come up with a couple of options.

How are you feeling since your surgery, @Mamanyt1953? I hope you're not in a lot of pain.

Thanksgiving. Well, I think it's just going to be Rick, his mom, and me. Although one of my GFs and her husband did say something last weekend about coming to our house because they're both having some health issues and she doesn't feel like cooking. And that's fine with me. Not sure yet about my brother and SIL....there's some family drama involved there.
I refuse to get caught up in it.

I have been thinking about dinner and what I want to make. I mentioned to Rick about just doing a nice turkey breast this year, but that didn't go over well. I do like to have leftovers and then we have all kinds of turkey this and that. And he enjoys that. We'll probably do a regular turkey and I'll brine it the night before. Sides are standard: the potatoes, the corn pudding, some sweet potatoes, etc. I'd like to roast some butternut and maybe some Brussels sprouts. My niece asked my sister about cranberry relish; she called me to see if I was making and I said I was and I'd share.

A pumpkin praline pie for dessert. And I found a recipe in Southern Living for a Salted Caramel Chocolate Pecan Pie that I am dying to try! Caramel! Chocolate! Pecans! YUM!

I still have menus from previous years on the computer, so I can pick and choose from them. It depends on how many people will be coming. Rick likes feasts because of the leftovers, so there will be a "feast" of some kind.

Yes, we did it already in October (Thanksgiving is in October here). We had a big dinner with my in laws on the Sunday and my mom and sister came over on the Monday (actual Thanksgiving day) for lasagna. That day was also my sons second birthday.
