Hi all!

My guy will be 10 in February. I am considering the kidney support gold supplement from pet wellbeing as a preventative measure for any kidney issues since I know one of the leading causes of death in older cats in kidney disease.

I have reached out to the company and they have told me the supplement can be used for preventative mesasures as opposed to treating a current issue. It is apparently a liquid with a dropper. They said they recommend putting it in food as opposed to just admisterimg the drops directly to the cat. My concern is that if I put it in his food and he doesn't like it, he'll be hesitant to eat his food again even without the supplement (he is VERY picky). He has IBD so finding a food initially that he liked and that didn't upset his stomach was difficult and I really don't want to go through that again.

Does anyone have experience with this supplement? Did you have positive results if so? Also, does anyone have any ideas about how to administer this other than adding it to his daily food? (He eats treats but only the crunchy kind).

Thanks for any help!

I'm not sure too many people here have used this, particular has a PREVENTATIVE.  I was able to find one thread on it, but not sure whether this person actually started using it or not:  http://www.thecatsite.com/t/309391/kidney-support-gold-supplement

I've have three kidney cats so far, and what I am doing with my existing cats  to try to prevent them from getting it is to feed only wet food, with extra filtered water added.  In addition, I make sure that the food I give them is low carb (probably has nothing to do with preventing kidney disease, but should help with possible diabetes, and certainly help keep their weight down).  Any treats I give them are either freeze dried raw or 100% freeze dried meat only.  I also took away any plug-in scents around the house, switched to using homemade cleaners, don't have carpet, try to be aware of anything I use around them (deod, hairspray, etc.) and keep my fingers crossed alot

Those are all great ideas, thank you so much. He's on an only wet food diet but wasn't always (he was my husbands cat and he didn't really know what he was doing when it came to cat ownership). I might call the vet and run the ingredients by her to see if there is any danger in using it as preventative. Thank you so much for replying!
