Our first snow of the season is enough to make the ground white and cover the deck and Joey, former feral/stray, is loving it.  I've had several cats who enjoyed playing in snow but Joey takes the cake.  He pretends he sees something to jump on, maybe something I can't see like a snowflake, he crouches, tenses, does the bum up wiggle, then runs and leaps in the air to pounce down, sliding on the deck, leaping again, pretending it got away, grabbing big pawfuls of snow and throwing them up in the air so he can jump on it when it falls, streaking for another spot to start all over.  I wish I could get video but our screens prevent it and when I go out he stops.  Last winter, before we could pet him yet, he would play tag and chase with me around the snow banks that built from the pee paths we snowblow so the dog can run around in the yard.

One other cat used to love to run and slide in the snow, just like kids do.  I was finding strange skid marks in the snow on our paved driveway.  Finally I caught her in action, pretending just like Joey to see a flake fall, running, stopping and sliding down the driveway.  She'd do it several times.  She did that inside too, when I piled sewing scraps on the big cardboard cutting board I put down when cutting out a pattern.

Most of my cats have liked when I build forts in the snow with little tunnels for them to run through and would play in them by themselves or with another cat, not just with me.  If you do this you have to be careful they don't collapse on the cat.

So, what about your cats?  Love the snow?  Play in it?

My cats were born and still live in Florida. They have no idea what snow is. I have no plans on ever letting them find that out because that would mean that I would have to be near it too.
