Say Goodbye to Super Size! - Page 2

Oh LOL is right. I just asked my husband what they super size...'cause I was thinking more of super sized salads or burgers. When he told me it's just french fries and soda, I could care less re them taking that away! Now if that doens't prove that I don't eat there often, I don't know what does!

What I was thinking, re value and money, was of the dollar menu that was first begun by Wendy's...a wonderful idea, imho.

So, my last (yes, last) comment is that my only concern has to be if their decision was based on fear of lawsuits etc. Folks are responsible for what they pop in their mouth (or being careful re spilling that hot coffee....)...

have a great day

I love McDonalds (I'm weird I know ) but I only eat there like once a year or less. We went there in January (only because we had coupons for a buy one get one free (cheap meal )) and that was the first time in like 2 years.
Then I went in with my Grandmother last week and we ate there, they asked me if I wanted it supersized I said no, am I ever glad I did, I couldn't even eat all that I had.

If they want to do somethin good put more salads so something on the menu.

I can't wait to see the 'super size me' film when it comes out. This is somewhat like the kind of filmmaking I would like to become a part of!

Isn't McDonald's giving out Stride Step things now? I think that's what it's called. It's a device you wear while walking to see how far you've walked. Anyone seen this?

It is an evil trick, the removing of the super size meal. Now it forces people to buy two meals instead and thus costing more and and also making them eat more.

By the way some of their 'healthy' option of salad contains more fat than their cheeseburger.

The only thing I like from McDonalds is their McGriddle.

There is a doc out right now (at least it's playing in NYC) about a man (the film maker) who purposely ate at McDonalds breakfast, lunch and dinner for a month to show how awful the food was to one's health.Maybe Mcdonalds was not happy over the bad press from this film. I think the film is called "Supersize Me" though I could be wrong. He gained about 25 pounds, his cholesterol, triglycerides and bloodsugar went through the roof as did his blood pressure, etc. Now you may say that's not realistic, that people don't eat there 3xs a day normally, but add up years and years of eating there regularly and you will get a cumulative effect. Personally, I think the food there stinks. And when I stop in to get a lousy cup of coffee or sneak in a desparate bathroom trip..the bathrooms make me freak. I wouldn't want food from cooks/servers using those bathrooms. I'm just a germ phobic nurse.

Duh! If you eat there a lot you're going to get fat! McDonalds has never said that they are the healthiest choice around. Maybe I'm just callous, but if people don't know that eating fast food is BAD for you then they are living under a rock. Let them get fat. I knew as a child that it was bad for you, and so are cookies and cake and ice cream and potatoe chips....

I'm really glad Colorado passed a law this session that says if you are stupid and eat too much fast food and get fat, don't blame the restaurants selling it. It bans frivolous lawsuits against fast food restaurants for obesity.

Yes adults do have a choice, however, their children don't, when the parents bring them there. Diabetes in children is skyrocketing...and this is mainly due to the fast food industry. The children are developing type II diabetes, this used to be called Adult Onset Diabetes. I see children everyday in my clinic who are grosly overwieight at 8 and 10 years of age..with cholesterol levels that one would normally see in an unhealthy 40 yr old! Blood pressures too are high...these kids are a stroke time bomb. As we all know carbs and fats taste good and are very addictive, the parents are setting up lifetime of poor eating patterns. One could claim this as abuse.

Yes the film is over the top...that's what good satire is all about, to wake you up, and shake you by the boots. Some hospitals now have McDonalds or Burger King on premises...great way to drum up busines huh? I don't care what fast food joint you eat at McDonalds, BK, Wendy's, etc, it's just poor quality, mass produced food, processed under God knows what conditions...YUCK!

Yes, I saw it this weekend. It is in an adult happy meal!!! I saw it this weekend when I went to McDonalds for breakfast. I hardly ever eat fast food, but we stopped on the way home from camping a few weeks ago and I had a sausage egg and cheese McGriddle, it was sooo good. Best breakfast sandwich I ever had. As far as this super-size thing goes, I don't really care much about it since I never ate it, but I do wonder why they got rid of the super size drinks..... And I also heard something on the news the other day that they are remaking the fries, taking out all the trans fat. Supposedly they are supposed to taste the same. Who knows

Okay this probably isn't going to be a really poplular thought but personal responsibility should and does extend to how you take care of your children. In other words, if those parents and you're taking their kids to McDonalds everyday of the week and letting them supersize anything then there is a problem not with McDonalds, not with their kids (beyond the health problem they may wind up with) but with them, the parent.

I mean, come on, how many of us really think that anything served at any of these fast food restuarants is good for us? Pick up the brochure that details the nutritional value if you have to. (Usually at least around here, these are placed right beside the napkins and occasion are printed on the tray liners) The salads there are load down with fat, the burgers and fries are loaded with fat. The soft drinks are fattening. I'm pretty sure they haven't figured out how to fatten up the water. If they actually believe that McDonalds is healthy then I hate to say it either they've been living under a rock or they're just plain stupid.

And quite frankly I used to whine at my parents all the time to take me to fast food place, and you know what they told me? No. That's right they told me no. These parents could do the same thing and they choose not to for whatever reason. And yes, I've had to do the same thing. I don't have children of my own but I do watch my cousin's children fairly often and they get to go to McDonald exactly once a year with me...the day of the circus...it's a special day just for us.

I agree with that. It is the parents responsibility It was very rare that my parents ever bought me fast food. The only time I really remember getting it is when I was maybe 9 or 10, Dad used to take me to the racetrack with him on Friday evenings and on the way he would stop and get me a chicken mcnugget happy meal. (And don't tell mom, but Dad used to let em play with the toy before I ate my food )

I agree that it is the parent's responsibility, too bad we seem to have a very large population of irresponsible parents. I witness that daily. That's why I think feeding your child so much junk food borders on abuse, if not downright abuse. The children who are becoming ill today will put a huge drain on the economy and on medical care and the insurance industry tomorrow. Believe me I'm not some crazy health nut...love my Ben and Jerry's and Cadberry's! McDonalds is here to make $, but parents need to wake up!

Are they going to start attacking ice cream shops next? I think a higher percentage of what they serve is going to make you fat... they rarely have anything healthy!
