hi catsters, i diagnosed my cat to have round worms.  i wanted to get her some medicine and after some research i thought piperazine would be the best option to go with,

now for my question, is it ok to give my cat human piperazine or should i get piperazine specifically made for cats?

while looking for piperazine and not being able to find it (human or cat) i came across a place vet that gives cats ambex five, vet told me its for all kinds of worms, its abit cheap also,, so im just not so sure. should i go for the ambex five? or should i stick to looking for piperazine?

thanks

much cat

I would NOT use the Ambex Five.  It has been discontinued by Bayer (so there must be a good reason!) and DRONTAL is suggested in its place, which is an old tried and true wormer.  Personally I prefer using pyrantel pamoate for roundworms, it is the most gentle and safe.  You can get it in several concentrations and under several names, including Strongid and Nemex.  It is the primary ingredient in Drontal for killing roundworms and hookworms.  Personally I use the Nemex-2 which says it's for dogs but it's fine for cats too, you just need to give a larger dose than the dog dose because cat roundworms are harder to kill evidently. It's VERY safe and tastes good too.  I mix it with their food and they gobble up every last drop.
