Please help!! My wonderful loving Kitty needs a new home. "Mercury" is a 21 lb grey Maine Coon with a silver undercoat. He has always been an indoor cat since I rescued him 3 years ago, so he is litterbox trained.

I work as a nurse and work long, long hours so he needs a wonderful home where he can have someone that has more time to play with him. He loves being brushed and petted. Someone please help... he is a wonderful cat!!!

This is an international cat site so it will be very hard for you to find someone to adopt this beauty.  Have you tried social media in your area or asked around to friends and family?  Be sure that you just don't give him away.  You always want to charge a fee to be sure to weed out those who might not want your cat as a pet.  Charging a fee will help to be sure that someone is serious about adopting your cat for the right reasons.

Also have you tried interactive toys so that he has something to do while you are gone?  Cats often don't mind being left alone for long periods during the day as long as you can give attention when you are home.  They do adjust to your schedule.

Where are you located? If you must rehome him, have you discussed this with your vet? He/she might be able to put something up in the office at the reception desk or talk to people who may have recently had a cat pass away and are thinking about getting another one.

Interactive toys can help but a companion could also. Has he ever been around other cats? This may seem like the opposite of what you are looking for but a friend might be the answer if he gets along with other cats and you are looking for a way to be able to keep him. Cats sleep most of the day and are more active at night. Do you work days or nights?

I am in Houston. I have not talked to the vet so thanks for the insight. I do work nights which makes it even harder. I have tried interactive toys and he get bored with them and tends to ignore them after about a week. :(

You can also talk to your co-workers to see if anyone is interested in adopting a cat. At least that way you'll have a good idea of where he'll be going and you could get updates on how he's doing and maybe visit from time to time.

The worse thing you can do is re-home him. He doesn't want someone to play with. He wants to be with his person. That's you. He will be devastated to lose you.

Please please re-think this.

Have you considered a buddy for him?  A single cat is a single cat they are SO MUCH HAPPIER especially

when being left at home while owners are at work two are double the fun! They really take care of themselves,

when you only have one you are their everything.  Beautiful kitty

I absolutely agree!  He needs a playmate.  That right there will solve all your problems. Please think about all the advice you've been given here.  I really do hate to think of your beautiful cat who's surely bonded to you being rehomed.

Good idea, but I would imagine this would only add more stress to her life. Worrying if they are getting along, etc.

Owning over 10 cats right now kittens included that's a big  Negative  :)  the more the merrier

Her cat would have less stress ~ be happier

The Op has owned the cat for a few years now.  Two cats can manage fine  :-)

Options to keeping her cat if she so chooses.
