Cat Urine Issues

Hi All,

We have a 7 month old kitten that we adopted around Sept 12. She is really lovely but has some issues we need help with. When we first got her from the shelter we went through the whole keep her in a small room to get used to the litter box etc. routine.  We did that about a week before letting her roam the apartment. She does use the litter box most of the time but about once a week she will pee or poo on the carpet in a random spot. We can usually tell when it will happen. Scratching the carpet, running in a circle. Sometimes we can catch her and put her in the box in time, other times we don't find out until afterwards and she is meowing (almost with pride) after she has already relieved herself. We love her a lot but its getting so frustrating constantly worrying that she is going to go on the carpet. 

Any help you can provide would be awesome!

How many litter boxes do you have?  She might benefit from a 2nd box in a different location. It almost sounds like she is looking for it in a hurry.  It's common for young kittens to have accidents; similar to toddlers who are potty training.  But at her age I'd think she would be past that.  

Be sure to use a good enzyme cleaner on the spots she has had accidents.  If she can smell it; it may draw her back.
