Hello. I'm seeking advice on some frustrating issues I've been having with my 11 month old cat. This all started last Saturday. I woke up to several spots of vomit throughout my house. It looked like some undigested dry food that I feed her every day (and have since I brought her home), so I figured it was probably an isolated incident and went on with my day. I left the house to go out to dinner and when I came home, there was more vomit. I then witnessed her throwing up that evening a third time. The last two times it was mostly yellow liquid. The following day, Sunday, she vomiting 6-7 times. By the end of the day it was mostly clear liquid or just dry-heaving. I also noticed her breathing seemed a bit fast and labored, but she wasn't in any distress. I made an appointment for the next day, Monday, and they ran a bunch of tests. They did blood work, a CBC, BMP, CK, phos, and did a CXR. The X-ray showed her heart was slightly enlarged but wouldn't know more until the labs came back. They gave her an anti-emetic injection and I took my girl home in the meantime. When the labs came back, several of her liver enzymes were elevate 4x above what the normal range is, her phosphorus was also elevated along with her CK. The vet suggested an abdominal ultrasound. Well from the rest of the day Monday until Thursday, I noticed significant improvement and she seemed back to her old self, there was no vomiting at all. Then on Friday, she seemed a bit less active and not eating. I called the vet and took her in immediately for them to perform the abdomal ultrasound. They found what appeared to be an obstruction so they kept her overnight for IV fluids and monitoring. Then plan originally was to perform a second ultrasound the next day to see if the obstruction moved at all, but the next day, she of course was doing much better. She was eating, playing, purring, and peeing. She however, had not had a bowel movement there. They decided to repeat the labs instead of the ultrasound, and almost everything was back to normal that was abnormal earlier in the week. They discharged her with some pain medicine and some cans of food to keep her on a bland diet. I brought her home and she seemed great on Sunday and Monday.. She had a bowel movement as well when she got home. Then this morning, Tuesday, I awoke to her vomiting again. I know for certain it has been at least 4 times. She pooped twice today though, and is eating. She doesn't seem herself once again. She lets out a howl right before she wretches and it's heartbreaking.

Some background info:
We rescued her at 12 weeks old. She had worms when we got her, that was the only other time she has ever vomited. Immediately following that, she had a URI with double pink eye. The poor cat was on some form of antibiotics for almost 6 weeks when we brought her home.

She's been eating the same food since we brought her home, and been on the same schedule. There have been no changes there.

I am just so frustrated and want answers. My girl is suffering and its becoming almost impossible to watch. I mean could you imagine throwing up all day every day for a week?

Hi @NicoleRN ...how is your 11 month cat doing now?

Did the Vet give you any other anti-nausea med to take home, besides the anti-emetic injection, ...or advise on giving Pepcid AC to her?

Was she only wormed the one time?

And are her bowel movements back to normal?

Edit to Add:

Is she a short hair or long haired cat, and did they give you any indication on what the blockage might have been...eg. hairball?

The only other thing that comes to mind, is some sort of flare up, from one of the ingredients in her food?

Though, you said that she's been eating the same food, since you had her, and were only given some cans of food from the Vet on the last visit.

Transitioning a cat to new food, can cause vomiting...but it would not cause 4x increase in liver enzymes.

I'm not sure if gall bladder disease, or cholangiohepatitis fits either, since that would also show jaundice in cats.

I hope your Vet figures out what is going on with your girl.
