Joey, former feral/stray, has now met all the inside cats and spent time with them. As I suspected two, mother and her now two year old daughter, were less than pleased with him and prepared to tell him so. But I've been careful with introductions, food, treats and pets and yesterday looked around and thought "my Peaceable Kingdom." They were all sleeping and nobody was hassling anybody else. Joey and the dog together on the chesterfield. The friendliest cat nearby on the loveseat. Momma cat on a dining room chair near me where I was cutting fabric out on the table (to make a window sill quilt for all of them to sit on) and the least friendly daughter cat furthest from Joey on another dining room chair but still, not bothering Joey.
The washer buzzer went off downstairs and while I was down moving laundry into the dryer I heard a thump, a scuffle, a bark and hastened back upstairs. When I moved Joey did too, jumped on the window sill, less friendly daughter chased him, there was some swatting I think and maybe some growling. No fight but the dog was worried and barked at them and let me know. Still, it's progress. Joey decided trying to sleep inside was too stressful and perhaps dangerous and he wanted back outside but he came in happily a few hours later to try again. The obvious solution for a while is I have to come up with more sewing projects that require more cutting out of fabric, gee, what a tough life I have.
