baby 1 has finally latched on -but I am almost certain it is not to a nipple -do I try and unlatch and get it onto a nipple -OR do I just leave it....it has been trying almost since birth at 11 to find a nipple -and has a heck of a time -and a 4 hour birth -its sibling who had a 3 min birth is not having any issues at this time at all of course ;)
You should help guide them to nipples.

I am pretty sure they all have it figured out now , Mommy Cat is calming down on her cleaning, and that is helping out the situation :)

It is great -thanks -pondering how I am going to move Mommy Cat and babies before I go to bed as she gave birth right where I worried she would -on the chair beside me ;) she can not spend the night here, I have had to move those babies back beside her so many times today -they move a lot!

I have a lovely box, 1/2 on a heat pad all set up, it is just the move I am a bit worried about.

I have tried to find information -and am not having any luck-on kitten stages of development. All I find is after the age of adoption. Any ideas -or where I can get a book or something, I looked at the bookstore today and again it was all 8 week old kitten books.

Thanks

Be careful with that heat pad not to overheat them. Are there still only 2? That's good - easier for poor momma & for you!

Well.....I have it how a lot of sites say to have it, 1/2 heat pad on low, and 1/2 no heat pad so that she can choose where to lie -not sure what else would be better ;) it is winter, in Canada -and this way it keeps the room a bit warmer, and give a side of the box a warmer option, they are currently on the warmer side for the first time -and they seem happy.

Sounds good. My foster birthed 3 kittens last fall/winter so feel free to ask for help if you need it.

So the kittens will be a week old tomorrow, and Momma is So hungry -almost to the point of when we brought her in the house on Sept 20! She simply can not get enough in! Not sure if it is milk production, or she is trying to fatten up (she was a starved stray). Thoughts, ideas? Thanks!

How much are you feeding her? Nursing moms eat a lot! She can have constant access to dry food and several servings of wet food per day.

Momma is gorging because she is afraid the food supply will disappear. She will self-regulate eventually when she realizes she will always be fed.

she has all the dry she wants, and I am feeding her wet a spoon full (heaping) every 1.5 - 2 hours a day, she does not seem to eat more than that at one time. BUT goes frantic if I am late with the food!  Poor luv :(  She is also really wanting out of the room she is in -but there are two male cats in the house, and she is very ready to get in a fight with them it would seem.....hope that calms down as we want to keep her, she is simply lovely to us humans!

Nursing moms need a huge amount of food. Please feed her as much wet as she wants. I would double the amount that you are giving her at every feeding.

Is there a way to contain the male cats so that mom can come out for a few minutes each day? She must have cabin fever.

Thank you for caring for her!

I have been feeding her more....and she is eating it :) thanks -I will see if we can come up with a way to contain the males -one is ours from "birth" if you know what I mean, the other is her son (we believe) that came in this summer as well -another stray -and she is not enamored with him either right now -male around kittens maybe?  That one only stays on our main floor -so as to stay clear of our male cat at night -complex ;)

We will try this evening to let her out and about -if possible.

That sounds like a plan! Yes, mom is fearful the males will harm her kittens right now. It is instinctual. [emoji]128077[/emoji]
