Hi all, I brought two strays into my home over the summer the first we think is a young son of the mother -who is pregnant (very!) we brought her in September 20, at that point we were told by the vet he thought she was 50 days (nope). We got a x-ray and ultra sound done by a rescue that is helping us a week ago today -because no babies -and the vet said mom and 2 babies (that is what is in there ;) ) are perfectly healthy, that our vet was way off on his dates. SO now we wait -she is huge, sometimes active, but sleeps a lot, most days eats a lot. The thought from both vets is that she has had "many" litters :( she was the thinnest cat I have ever seen the first day I saw her (Sept 6) and started feeding her twice a day -so she has been eating kitten food since the 20th of September.

Sorry for the ramble -would love thoughts, input, support. I have thought a few times that she was going to have them -then nothing.

Will try and post a picture, we call her "Mommy Cat"  :)

Oh my! She is much too thin! Are you feeding her as much wet food as she wants several times a day now? She also needs 24/7 access to dry kitten chow.

You can also give her plain, boiled chicken, scrambled egg, cheese, ground beef, and yogurt.

She should get a dish a day of kitten formula for extra calcium.

Have you set up a nest for her?

Here are some helpful links:

Are you planning to spay her when the kittens are 8 weeks old? Will you be keeping her?

She has gained SO much weight in the month I have had her -and in the 2 weeks we fed her outside before we were able to catch her -she was a stray (thanks for your feed back though). She looks amazing compared to then.

I am free feeding her dry, and feeding her as much as she will take of the kitten food -and she was eating two full cans a day -for a couple weeks -now she eats one.

The vet is thrilled with how well she is doing -and is following via FB her status. She had no hair from her front legs down on Sept 6, because of mal- nutrition, so she is doing amazing.

Hopefully there are some people on here that have rescued strays and can offer support/feedback -or simply give me some positive thoughts on this adventure -I would really appreciate that :)

Hopefully you'll hear from others soon!

It's great that she has improved so much in your care.

The cat I have now was a pregnant stray that I took in. She had 4 kittens and I kept mom and all her kittens, who are now 18 months old. All are spayed/neutered. Every cat I've ever owned has come to me as a stray.

It is always rewarding to rescue a stray and give them a loving home. Thank you for taking in this cat. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Its good to know cata manage a little late birth well - better than humans -  said Re your long wait.

Its too early deliveries which are dangerous to the kittens - worse than humans.

And re the first vet -  deeming the stage of pregnancy isnt not exact science.  I suppose she being ex-stray had a swollen tummy or something...

I had been to a board meeting last night and came home to a tiny amount of blood on the chair "Mommy Cat" (a stray I rescued this summer- yes that is what we call her right now) sits on. This morning when I got up there is much more blood on both chairs,  on the floor and there was even some coming out of her! If my reading is correct that would mean today is the day - I sure hope so, I did not breed her, I have only known her a month and honestly I am so ready, and so in love with this amazing, affectionate cat to introduce me to "Bob and Sue" :)

Wish us all luck today!

drops, it is not what I would personally call "a lot".  When I fist walked in I was surprised but now, am not in any way shocked, or worried. She does not have blood pouring out or anything, just will leave a spot when she gets up (a very small spot)  :)

Pretty sure she is having them right now :) her nest is underneath a computer desk where I can not see her (less than ideal -but as a stray and with little time to work with -it was decided between us and the rescue to not fight her urge to completely hide. She has been in her nest for 15 min now, purring and licking like crazy (I can not see her at all). I will let you know what happens.

Not for more than a half hour. Do you see her contracting? If so, you need to pull firmly but gently as she pushes.

As said, half an hour hopefully not more.  If desperate, you can help her by firmly but calmly draw out the kitten  simultaneously as when she pushes.  As TalkingPeanut said.

Good luck!

You have multiple people answering you. I was just checking in.

Did you have to assist with the birth?

baby 1 has finally latched on -but I am almost certain it is not to a nipple -do I try and unlatch and get it onto a nipple -OR do I just leave it....it has been trying almost since birth at 11 to find a nipple -and has a heck of a time -and a 4 hour birth -its sibling who had a 3 min birth is not having any issues at this time at all of course ;)
