Hi all,

I've got three young cats who have been on an all wet diet for half a year now. I'm thinking about starting my cats on a frankenprey diet and wanted to know where you guys source your meats (I live in Vancouver, Canada).

I'm definitely aware of the benefits of a raw food diet for cats, but I think the commercial raw foods are a bit out of my budget and wanted to make some from home. I'm not very comfortable grinding their meat and all that yet though, hence frankenprey.

They have had commercial raw foods in the past and they love it. I give the older cats chicken wings every so often for her teeth and she has no problems at all. The other kittens have a rougher time with it.

Are the raw meats (i.e. chicken hearts, chicken wings, etc) from the grocery stores fine to feed them? I know I definitely should not give them ground meat from the grocery store due to bacteria.

Any advice would be great! Sorry if this question has come up before :( I'm a total noob and just want my kittens to be happy and healthy.

Raw meat from the supermarket or butcher are fine a long as you read the label and make sure that  the meat hasn't been enhanced with anything like broth, seasonings, vinegar, preservatives, and sodium solutions. If you're not sure, ask the butcher. Big name brands of pre-packaged meats like Perdue have web sites that you can look up product info on.
