Hello,
I am new to the cat world. The last year I have been thinking about adopting a cat, and yesterday I finally adopted a cat from the pound in Michigan, I brought him home and named him Mordecai. He is a one year old male and neuter. He came to the pound as a stray. The paper said that he was a flaming point. I wasn't sure what that meant, and I thought that is was just his coloring. For he is a cream colored cat with light orange ears, spots, and tail. Well, after I got him home I researched what he was, which is a flame point Siamese cat. When I read about them it said that this type of cat forms strong bonds with its owner. Boy is that ever true, Mordecai, is very affectionate and has to be where ever I am. He follows me around the house and has to be right next to be. He is more interested in me than toys and playing. He does play but he would rather be with me. So, everything has been great and I just love him!!! But, tomorrow I have to work and I will be gone from 6:30am to 3:30pm. I thought that having a cat this would be okay to leave him. I feel that he won't be have any problems or damage the house. I am concerned that he keeps scratching the walls but I plan on getting more scratching post today so I can put them where he keeps trying to scratch on the walls. My main concern is that I am afraid that Mordecai will become lonely (maybe nothing will happen) but over the long run I think that he will become upset and lonely and then really start being destructive and angry. So what can I do to make this transition easier for him. He is a wonderful cat and I am so very bonded with him. I guess my question would be should I lock him in a small room, or not? I am worried about this because my husband works nights and he was sleeping today and Mordecai wanted to be with, Mordecai kept scratching at the door and meowed and meowed. So if he is separated by just a door what will happen if when no one is there at all.
