Good morning all. we recently moved and sense then our cat get's us up at 5 am and won't stop meowing til one of us get's up for the day. he even goes as far as shutting our bedroom door to wake us up. we have tried feeding him at that hour, playing with him before bed. now I must say monday thru friday I get up at 5 for work so my he's confused, but that hasn't changed. the only change is we moved. I don't know what to do. I like to try and sleep til 7 on the weekends but my cat won't let me. HELP PLEASE.

if kitty has the run of the house & can go anywhere, then you guys are not off limit. when I got my kittens (3) I couldn't sleep with them because they always were up playing & stuff. I just shut the bedroom door so they couldn't come into where I was sleeping. so that's an option is keeping your bedroom door shut so kitty can't come in, then when you wake up, you can go out to where he is.

if he is hungry you can leave some dry food out for him so at least he has something to eat. I open a can of food right before bedtime so my kitties have something to tide them over until breakfast. remember cats are nocturnal, they like to be up & about at night, when we like to sleep.

it will take some time for him to mellow out & want to sleep longer. the older they get the more sleep you both will get!

thank you for the reply. my furry friend is ten yrs old and we always leave dry food out. before we moved he never did this so I think he's just still nervous. it's been 3 week's sense we moved. we have tried giving him attention just to let him know he'snot alone. he still meows til I get up for the day. were going to try and ignore him but I hate to do that.

good grief I didn't know he was 10. You can get some Feliway & spray around the house, that will give him calming smells & will help him settle in faster. I usually spray it on the carpet by a window so the air flow can carry it throughout the rest of the house
