I'm always with a cat.
Every time I bring up micro chipping them my parents are like "Oh they'll never get lost" when they do get lost and we get them back they are like "It'll never happen again" We lost a cat on vacation, after we got her back they still refuse to micro chip. The other one was locked in the lobby and last night some dude brought him to the spca even though he knew we have 2 cats. They keep getting into trouble, yet my parents won't listen to a dumb 13 year old who knows nothing. NOT TRUE!!! They are the dumb ones here!!! I'm always worried Is this the last time I see the cats? What if they don't come back? I mean sure, we can keep them outside BUT AT LEAST MICRO CHIP THEM!!! I'm so mad they do not care about them

I'm in Sydney. A cat can be given to the RSPCA be desexed, vaccinated and microchipped and bought from adoption for $150. Also the council offers programs as does Cat Protection Society. Look into what programs are available and your parents can't do jack because if your cats not microchipped legally the cat may not have an owner.
Maybe next time your cat goes missing tell whoever finds it to take it to the RSPCA.

Actually they did take him there, which is bad because mom is the only one working. Dad can't find a job and I'm too young :(

Are you in Australia? I know there are a few Australia members here on TCS who may know of low cost vet clinics where your cat could get a microchip. @Geoffrey @Cuddlemum can you help?

Hello Nova,

I too live in Sydney, I live in Mosman, where do you live?

I suggest that the Cat Protection Society would be able to help you and guide you to the cheapest vet, near you, who will microchip your cats.   I have just spoken to the CPS and the price for microchipping varies from about $A30-$A70 for the life of the cat.  The receptionist said that you should ring them up at 9519 7201 between 9am and 4 pm and tell them your story and they will look after you.

The address is the Cat Protection Society,

103 Enmore Road,

Sydney 2042.

Tel. 9519 7201

BTW It is illegal, in New South Wales, for any cat born after 1999 not to be microchipped. After microchipping, every cat should be registered at your local Council, however the Council gives a discount for neutered cats.  You should also know that, if found without a microchip, the cat may eventually be euthanised and the owner will suffer a heavy fine.  And as you are a minor, it is likely that it will be your parents who will be fined. So you should tell your parents that - it might change their mind!

With all best wishes,

Geoffrey

I am from the United States and have 13 cats and because they are all so precious to me, I keep them very well protected. We have 4 that stay indoors because they are timid and the rest are in our sun room which have cat trees and their food and water. They can go through their pet door into a 40 X 40 foot Catio. The Catio is completely protected with high fencing. Records state that cats who live outdoors have a life expectancy of about 3-5 years and inside cats about 10 - 20 years. They can get hit by cars, predators like coyotes, Hawks and worst of all evil people who hate cats. As far as chipping goes, it can be wise but I know of several people who have found stray cats and never have them checked for chips. Two of my friends just recently lost their cats that lived indoors and outdoors. One of my friends black cats would go in and out all day for the year she had him. He has not come home for over a week. Black cats should never be let to roam near Halloween in our neck of the woods because mean people will either capture them and torture them or out right kill them because they are superstitious! My friend is sick about this. So the best protection is living inside.

Hello again, Nova,

Just to let you know that our Sukie, a neutered female cat above, was charged $A53.74 by the Mosman Council for registration this year.  Other Councils may be slightly cheaper

- or not

With all best wishes,

Geoffrey
