Coconut oil to clean cats ears?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has used coconut oil to clean their cats ears? 

I wanted to try something natural and more gentle than the two store-bought ear solutions I have tried.    She is prone to getting yeasty ears and I've heard the coconut oil has anti-fungal properties.

I've never used it to clean my cats's ears, but I did ask my vet about it since 2 of my cats go absolutely nutty for it. She said it's perfectly safe for cats, and more than that, it helps with hairball prevention, healthy fur and is anti-fungal. 

I also use it to give one fussy cat his medicine. I crush it up mix it with a little bit of coconut oil and then spread the oil on his paws. He won't touch the medicine if I try to feed it to him, but he will certainly go to town eating and licking every bit off his toes.   

Ok - all went pretty well with the coconut oil -  I melted some and made sure it was completely cool and soaked a cotton ball in it and wiped her ears.  I'm sure she was happier to clean that off her ear than the bottled ear cleaner solution.  It seemed to work better too.  I imagine because it is oil it's dissolving the ear wax better.  I do use it myself to remove eye make-up which it works wonderfully for. 

I did find a video of a lady cleaning out her cats ears with coconut oil. 

I think I like the commercial cleaner (Zymox Ear Cleanser) the best so far to clean her ears...it's got a combination of oils and astringents in it...the coconut oil may have been too oily..nothing to dry the ear with.
