My 6 month old boy just got castrated a couple days ago. After the first day he started getting fur stuck to the incision overnight (there was no stitches, just left open). There's now a rather large patch of fur stuck on there pretty good. Is this normal? Or should I try to loosen it free with some warm water and cotton balls?

Day 3 (today) - after I clipped the stuck hair free from the surrounding area:

And yes, I have also contacted the vet with an email including the pictures.. Just figured I'd try here too until they can get back to me. Wondering if anyone else has experience with this.

Is he wearing a cone? Or is he able to keep it clean? If he can take care of it, I wouldn't worry. But if he's wearing a cone, then you need to care for his cleanliness. But don't do anything without the vet's advice.

Yes he has a cone, as the vet said they are not supposed to lick themselves at all. I managed to remove the hair patch myself now with some warm water and cottonballs. He is still getting his fur stuck to it but it's more manageable now at least. ^^

I think you should remove the cone so he can do some normal grooming.  Most males do not need cones.
