My cat had a nasty corneal abrasion which is almost all healed. I was given terramycin ointment to put in her eye for a week. The ointment smeared all over the fur around her eyes because she is very wiggly and I had a hard time getting it perfectly in.

I have tried water on a cotton ball, but I can not get it off! Her fur is still just as oily. Her eye is still very fragile and can easily be damaged. It was actually perfect a few days ago, but when I took her cone off she immediately tried to clean the oily fur and slightly re-damaged her eye.

Is there any way to get this stuff off? I have searched and searched the internet and can't find anything.

Terramycin ointment is the antibiotic in a heavy petroleum type base and all its solvents are irritants when applied near the eye.. I am a human doctor, not a vet and any advice that I give you should be checked with a vet.  Having written this, I believe that you will never be able to remove the ointment to your cat's satisfaction and whatever you do, the cat will still try to clean herself.  Probably the best thing to do is to leave well alone.  Time - and your cat - will remove it.

With all best wishes,

Geoffrey
