I'm really hoping he pulls through but he hasn't had much luck. He has been hit twice by cars in the last year, the first one left him with a paralyzed tail and trouble going to the bathroom but with oil he was happy and healthy.

This week though, he collapsed in pain and was brought to the vet, they thought he was badly constipated so they performed an enema, he came home again and then I noticed he wasn't peeing. Today he wet himself and there was blood in the urine.

We rushed him back to the vet and she expressed his bladder and it was just red water with blood. They checked for a blockage but found now. Now he is staying the night and I am crying myself sick. They think the problem is neurological from his tail paralysis.

Has anyone heard of this happening before and if so, what was the prognosis?

@GingerCiara ...I'm so sorry that you are going through this with your sweet cat.

I don't have any experience with tail paralysis, or neurological problems in cats,...but I just wanted you to know that you brought your cat in to the right place, and they will do everything they can to help your cat.

Try not to worry yourself sick, because tomorrow they will know more, and just take it step by step.

It may not be as bad tomorrow, when other test results come in, or they give him some meds.

Hopefully, it's something treatable and the treatments work.

Inflammation of the bladder, infection, and stones can also cause blood in urine, so just hang in there.

Sending you mega vibes for Health, and that your cat does better on friday.

Update on friday, when you can, and tell us your cat's name.

His name is Ginger. Thank you for your kind words. I'm so stressed right now because I'm worried that I left him there overnight and I keep thinking he's frightened even though he's probably sedated. He was bright enough and eating before I brought him over but bladder very distended. I've been up all night worrying. I've decided no matter the diagnoses he's coming home with me even if it's just for a final day of spoiling.

Ginger is a very pretty name, and very spicy, too.

I know you are mega stressed, and it's unavoidable, but you are right, he's probably sedated and resting.

Maybe the spinal problems just pinched a nerve, and caused the bladder problems.

Hopefully, he'll be better in the morning.

I like your idea of bringing him home, and spoiling him.

Just know, that he knows how much you love him and care for him, even if he's at the hospital.

Hopefully, you can manage to get some sleep, tonight, just to be better rested.

It is so hard when our cats are ill, since all we do is worry,...but we cannot really change the outcome...so worrying is not really useful.

I know I do it, too, though, ...and it's always easier said...to not worry, than to actually be able to not worry.

How old is Ginger? I figure all cats have about nine lives, so maybe he used up a few...but still has some more to spare.

Don't know how old he is. I found him in. Snow one Christmas. Someone had dumped him so we always reckoned he was a Christmas kitten that didn't work out because he wasn't potty trained. We reckon around 7. The vet just called me. He didn't pee last night despite having a catheder and drip. I'll know more this afternoon.

They think the nerve damage in his tail spread to the bladder and left him unable to urinate, which then damaged the kidneys and stopped them working. They assured me it was the right call to put him to sleep and that he had only had such a good last year after all the trauma he had been through because of the care he received.

It was comforting to hear that but I am heartbroken. Crying my eyes out all day because he had dealt with so much and then this had to go and happen him but I know its for the best and he's at peace.

I'm so sorry. He knew he was so loved and treasured while he was with you. That was such a gift you gave him.

Such sad news about Ginger.
As is our TCS custom we'll lock the thread now out of respect for your loss.  We invite you to place a tribute to your sweet boy in our Crossing the Bridge forum.
