I'm new here and I've been reading some threads and I'm so happy to see that there are many open minded kitty owners here. A lot of forums look down on you if you happen to mention the names of what can be considered "bad" quality foods. I agree that some brands are better than others but it's strictly a personal choice. I'd rather see a cat or dog eat the lowest quality food than be starved to death. Anyways, I have a female Siamese mix who is quite the picky girl. The vet believes she has feline herpes, she's on Lysine and from what I've read Lysine is more readily available in meat so I'm assuming it might help her symptoms to put her on mostly canned food. She actually loves canned food which is good. Other cats I've owned wouldn't come near it. t know that strictly wet food is best but I do need a kibble that she'll eat for in between meals and when I need to go away overnight or some occasion where I can't take her along and her feeding schedule might be off if someone else watches her.
I'm looking for suggestions on what kibble seems to be mostly accepted by even the finickiest kitty. I've tried a few brands and I've had to actually start going down the quality food ladder. She'll eat a few pieces and then not bother with it again. I've tried several things because she sheds a lot and I've been looking for something to help her skin and coat too. I don't have a problem feeding by-products because while they are gross to us, animals do eat them if they were eating a natural prey diet.
I saw that many people seem to rotate brands like Friskies or Sheba, etc. I've been considering rotating those brands with some better brands so that she can have a mostly canned food diet. I definitely can't afford to do all high quality brands. She won't eat some of the better brands anyway so food is only as good as what they'll actually eat. She prefers pates and no chunks or morsels anyway which seems to be the ok ones to feed from the cheaper brands.
If you have or know a finicky cat, what brands of kibble do they eat consistently? We have tried Fromm, Eagle Pack, Taste of the Wild, Nutro and Nature's Variety Instinct without much luck.
Thank you!
