Hey Everyone,

I have a beautiful 6 month kitten named Scooby. hes been a great eating champ but i have seen lately he is slowing down eating. I feed him 2 times a day with dry food out in between meals. When he was young I was feeding him 3 times but he slowed down to 2 as he got bigger and now he is not eating a full can of wet food in one sitting but finishing it throughout the day, while I am at school then when I get home he does the same thing over night., save for for the majority of the night hes sleeping with me which hes done since i got him.

I wash and clean his water dish and food dishes daily, and I also clean around his food area. I also clean his litter box twice a day as well.

Hes still going in the litter box, and is still playful and hyper (trust me still working on not using claws to play)  but I just want to see if that is normal or should I be concerned?

Pictures for reference.

I recently learned that their appetites can slow down during certain season changes and increase during others (winter is supposed to be when they're hungriest)  although I'm sure that doesn't apply to every cat.  In general though, I've also read that the hungry kitten appetite isn't supposed to decrease as a whole until they are closer to a year old,  but again, each cat could vary.   My own almost 5 month old kitten never had a huge appetite to begin with compared to other kittens, even though she's extremely active, but I almost wonder if that's something to be concerned about.  She can't eat more than a quarter of a 3 oz can in one sitting without getting full, and sometimes she doesn't even finish that and has to come back for it a little later.

All in all, is he eating the same amount, just not in the same time frame?  I can't quite tell.  You said he is now just eating 2 meals per day with dry out all the time.  And just taking longer to eat his portion of wet, correct?

As long as he is continuing to gain weight, not stay the same or losing, then I'd think he is getting enough food.
