Hi, this is my first post. I am the proud owner of a 3.5 month old Lilac Point Siamese. I love her very much and she is my first cat (which makes me somewhat nervous!
Anyways, everything with her is progressing very well, for the most part she is very well behaved, a trickster and active, a typical siamese.
The question that I have today is in regards to her playing in her litter box.
When I received her (at 7.5 weeks) from the breeder she was already litter trained. She has never had an accident with me to date and this makes me very happy. She does however have poor litter box etiquette.
This started out with her sitting in her box and kicking her litter out after doing her business (which is acceptable to me because she is just burrying and thats natural). Lately she has been sitting outside of the box and "scooping" litter out onto the floor for fun. I began to get tired of constantly sweeping around the box, so today I went to purchase a new covered litter box unit. The walls of this unit are a little bit higher than her previous box (except by the whole where she climbs in). It has a sifter on one side and a tray to deposit the business that hasnt been sifted. It has a sort of "igloo" top on it.
Now when I brought home the box this afternoon I filled it with some of the litter from the old box and she began to use it right away. Now just recently it seems that this box has turned into the "play area" for her. She will get in it (with no intention to do business) and roll around in the litter and play and investigate all over. She comes out of the box with litter dust all over her (I have already had to clean out one of her eyes) thank god the box is clean when she is doing this. This is upsetting me. What do I do to stop this behavior?!
For the time being I have removed the sifting grate from the side of the box, and I have removed the cover of the unit as well. Hopefully this will make a change.
Should I just ease the changes on her by letting her get used to the box first, then adding the sifter, and then adding the dome?
She uses a clumping litter if it means anything to the question.
She is a perfect little girl otherwise and I dont know what I would do without her in my life.
Looks like a great community here, hopefully I will become a regular.
