bad kitty

i have a 8mo male kitten he has been fixed, my problem is i can't pet the kitten without him bitting and scratching me he attacks my grandbabies by jumping in their lap and scratching their feet he has a lot of toys and a scratching post i need to really handle this problem or i will have to get rid of him.

Do you play with him?

First, give babies blankets or worn clothes for the kitty to get used to their smell. He might be seeing them or you as a threat and try to protect himself. So, if you let the kitty smell you first, wait for him to signal a little bit of affection and then pet him slowly, he may feel more comfortable. If he has flattened ears, dilated pupils, a twitching tail, know that he is not ready and he may try to bite or scratch again. If that's the case, give more time. I don't know if you're the one feeding him but sometimes when they know that you're the one giving the food, helps them gain trust too. Let him see you giving the food. And also play with him, not just give toys and wait for him to play with those by himself. Just remember, sometimes gaining trust takes some time. Hope these help!
