My kitty is a silly one. When she pees in the litter box then paws at the litter to cover it up she covers it perfect every time. However when she poops, she scratches at the higher sides of the box (covered box) and usually doesn't cover her poop at all. Every once in a while she will get at the litter but usually it's a good minute or 2 of her scratching the sides so even when we're on the other side of the house, we know she's pooped because we can hear her! I find it funny, but why would she be able to perfectly cover her pee, but not poop? I've tried pawing at the litter when she poops to kind of "show" her how to cover it up but then she gets into play mode and wants to play with the scoop. Anyone else's cat do this?

Oh how I wish I knew the answer to this one! Our cats are twins in the potty department [emoji]128569[/emoji] I've given up figuring out why or how to change this because this is the she has been since I adopted her 4 years ago!

one of mine does the exact same thing. in fact she'll just scratch & scratch at the box & not the stuff in it. it's real fun especially at 2 in the morning

Both of mine dig but only bury occasionally.  Noodles favorite thing to do is paw the sides of the box or and then take a 1-3 victory laps around the house.  This is ALWAYS at night after my kids are in bed.  Mooch and I just sit on the couch and watch her run back and forth.
She also used to stand on the sides of the box and "hover" while going when we had an electronic box.

I think the only time something really gets buried is when they've come along again to go before I scoop.

I've read that not covering poop is a sign they feel secure. Because in the wild, they cover it in order to protect themselves from predators. This actually makes sense because they seem to cover more when I have guests and less when I don't.

As long as they do it in the litterbox, I try not to worry about it.
