He keeps getting out!!

My male cat is fixed and every morning when I open the door for my daughter to get on the bus he rushes threw my legs or around me to get out! We live in a rural area so we have a lot of animals that could very well hurt him. I've tried watching for him. Opening the door just wide enough for us to fit threw...if I try and get him in a room and shut it before she leaves he hides where I can't find him! Is there anything I can do other than what I'm doing now?! He's hasn't been outside since he was fixed almost two years ago! Yesterday he got out and I found him meowing scared as could be! Picked him up brought him inside.it does more harm than good to go look for him because if he sees me he runs farther away.

Hi there, i have the same problem with my two cats. It's always a race to get out the door. I find giving them some food distracts them long enough to get out the door. Not sure of a better solution.

I never thought of distracting him! He loves his laser light! Awesome idea thank you very much!

No problem. Give the laser a go. It might just do the job!

Mine used to do that a lot too! When I left for work, I had to give her some treats on the other side of the living room then go out the door. She's calmed down a lot now but that helped me for a good while.
