I think black cats are absolutely gorgeous.  I call Connor my little panther.  He's quite a vicious predator.  Those catnip mice didn't stand a chance.
I agree.  My late cat Wesley was not just beautiful but he walked like a panther.  He was utterly splendid, in my opinion, the way he would pad across the room like the local king.  And like most black cats, his coat was gorgeous - so shiny and glossy and soft to the touch.  Paul is just like him, minus the panther walk.  Alas, Paul tends to waddle.

I agree about the glossy and soft coat. I've never seen a cat with fur that soft before. Mingo is like a powder puff.

Connor has a really soft, glossy coat, too.  And he also walks just like a panther.  And don't get me started on that attitude!!!  I made John take them to get neutered because I didn't want them at me.  Then I picked them up.  Murphy was his normal "I love everyone" self but Connor wouldn't have anything to do with John for almost a week.  He wouldn't even look at him.  If John came near him or tried to touch him, he stuck his nose way up in the air and just strutted - and I mean literally strutted - away.  Imagine a snobby cartoonish cat.  John would try to give him treats and he wouldn't eat them until I picked them up then put them down again.  John finally broke him with the laser pointer.  Both cats know what it is.  He pulls it out and they sit in front of him, tails twitching, just waiting.  Well, he got it out and Connor tried so hard not to go after it.  He sat on the couch, trying to look away, but twitching every few seconds, until he finally jumped up and ran for it at top speed.  And after that, he seemed to have forgiven John.

I have a black cat named Casey. He is two years old was adopted from a rescue at 7 weeks old. I have 3 other cats and he gets along with them great. When I get home from work he greets me at the door and guides me to the couch. As soon as I sit down he cuddles with me while purring and drooling. A purring cat in my lap just melts away work stress.

That's why working from home is such an improvement over doing the same job in an office building.  Usually, I have at least one cat purring on my lap while I work.

In some places, stupid superstitions and ignorance perpetuate this very detrimental way of thinking; but in most of the world, black cats, like all other cats, are extremely loved and admired.  I've always thought them the most aesthetically beautiful of all cats (though I love each and every cat!); and even here, they have been featured in a lot of ads and presentations where style, elegance, and beauty are the subjects.

Just adding another big heap of love for the black kitties. I have two, one that I've just adopted and a family cat back in the U.S. They're both the sweetest little critters and I adore them. I've always thought felines of every color are beauties, but I find black cats paticularly striking. I think the black coats in contrast with how vivid the colors of cat's eyes are is just lovely. I hope more people will see that there is so much good in them instead of holding onto misconceptions. :Chat Noir:

My Mom never wanted a Black cat, Nightfury just fell into her life. He has a wonderful personality and is such a little love. I think part of the problem is that they aren't immediately attention getting like other more colorful cats, they also photgraph horribly for shelter and rescue sites. They also look a lot a alike; my new neighbor saw Nightfury outside and ended up chasing him around our front yard because the neighbor thought Fury was his cat escaped from his house. It wasn't until my Mom went outside and Fury ran into her arms that the neighbor realized his mistake. I also went to a shelter where they had a room of just black cats and they were hard to tell apart until you watched long enough to spot the differences in shape and personality. It just makes black cats interchangable instead of unique unless you know them which makes one less likely to stand out and get adopted.

Because theyre considered bad luck in some cultures , plus they think that black cats are very creepy when they look at you @ night .. but not all people hate black cats , my friend had a male black cat for 12 years .. he sadely passed away this year, she told me that he was SO cute and never considered him but a little bundle of joy [emoji]128515[/emoji]

I go weak with black cats, have always had at least one, LOVE them.  But I know what you mean and it's the same with dogs, the black ones at the shelter are often left there, people don't take them.  A theory with dogs is that the black coat makes their eyes harder to see and read.  Of course dogs most often have brown eyes and cat eyes tend to be a lighter colour that contrasts with their coat, unless they are dilated.  When Joey is playing in the house in the evening his whole face looks like a bad photo, all black with no eyes showing at all.  :)  My dog is black too, here they are, the two of them:

The photo above reminds me of Halloween, with the orange leaves and black cat.  Remember everybody, get your black cats in early for the evening and night tomorrow.  Your black dogs too.

I second this. My black cats will remain in my 3rd floor apartment. This is where they live. They will not go out - only to our screened porch.

Too many people do evil things to black cats at Halloween...

Yes, any cat needs to be kept in.

Our black Sadie cat used to like to sit in our front window and watch the  little trick or treaters come to our door.  I will never forget one little girl's reaction when Sadie stood up and stretched and the little girl hadn't realized till then she was a real cat.  The child was thrilled and pleased and so was her mother.
I think they liked black cats.

My first kitty as a child was almost solid black except for a really small white patch at her chest.  We named her Samantha after the character on Bewitched which was a show we always watched.  I never knew about the superstition until after that since I was only 8 when we got her.  But since then, I've always loved black kitties!  I think they are the prettiest color and they are very sweet and friendly.

When I got grown and moved out on my own, I wanted my first Kitty to be black!  And so I got Sammy, a black persian.  He looked very similar to @Kat0121's Lily and Sophie.  He was kind of aloof since his papa was a flame-point Himmy, but he was a very sweet boy.  I'm so glad I never learned of the superstition before getting a black kitty and glad my parents didn't believe in it either.

People can be superstitious, Medieval-minded morons. We put a man on the moon, invented computers, etc., and yet idiots still believe in this nonsense. Humanity is doomed.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE black cats!  They are my favorite coat color. And those eyes...so beautiful.

R.I.P. Smudge, who died far too soon at age 3 from cancer, November 1st. He was a gorgeous Maine Coon-mix. I adore Maine Coons, and especially the black ones. He was my best buddy, and would sleep in the crook of my arm every night. He was a clown, too, and lots of fun.

R.I.P. Willi, who also died at age 3, from kidney problems, and possibly vet negligence.  He was all black, with just a small white circle on his chest. A quiet, laid-back boy, who loved to be held.

Loki, his twin (but his circle is larger). A goof. Another casual, laid-back cat, but he lives up to his name (Loki=Norse god of mischief).  Even people who say they don't like cats like him. He's so easy-going, friendly and loving--and has a foot fetish.  He's now the senior house cat in the pecking order.

Little Sarah Jane, another tuxedo, who just turned 3 last month. I still think of her as the "kitten" as we got her as an abandoned 5-week-old baby, and I raised her.

And Smedley, my new tuxedo kitten, a.k.a., Lover-Boy.  He's about 10 weeks old now, and such a sweetie--he purrs nearly continuously, and is so loving. I'm so in love with this little fellow!

Black cats are the best!

Sadly, I never appreciated black cats before Jingles came into our lives. She was abandoned in a woods next to our house. We heard plaintive meowing, went to investigate and out popped a black kitten. A black cat, why not a tortie or tabby? Oh no! but I couldn't leave her there.

Fast forward three years and I'm smitten with black cats. Jingles is beautiful, full of life and with a major attitude, and she knows she's the best! She's's such a part of our family now and I'm so happy we looked beyond her black coat. We would have missed out on the best cat ever if we hadn't and black cats are simply stunning when you really look at them.
