Last night Grisou, the big game hunter, brought a tiny mouse through the cat flap.

I happened to be there and tried to rescue the poor thing, but it escaped. There is space between the floor and the appliances where it hides.

This morning it was hiding under the cats' own chest freezer, as evidenced by both Oberon and Geronimo staring at it.

I opened the porch door and moved the chest freezer, but instead of running outside the mouse went and hid under the oven.

At least there are plenty of crumbs for it to eat

Unfortunately for the mouse, the house is home to five strapping cats.

Tip for everyone whose cats don't get along: give them a mouse, and they will form a truce and go hunting!

That doesn't work in my house. Rocket is selfish and keeps the mouse all to herself.

I'm sorry to tell you that Frederick, the mouse, didn't live more than two days in that kitchen. I feed frozen mice so couldn't distinguish his remains from the other  food. But I was able to rescue his successor and let him out the front door while Grisou and Oberon were still searching in the kitchen (where he was dragged in through the cat door).

I've saved many a mouse (and birds, snakes and lizards) from the Jaws of Death of my hunters.  But some don't make it.  The 3 Amigos will stand guard wherever it's hiding until the poor thing makes its move and then gets eaten.
We are transitioning our cats to be mostly indoor cats, though, so the carnage has been much less the past few months.
