Hello all,

Just joined and am looking for advice.

My cat is nine years old and recently started having spasms that looked like hiccups. I thought it might just be a hairball issue but it's lasted for two days. It's definitely involuntary and most noticeable when he's laying down.

He doesn't eat very much although he still purrs and drinks water.

I of course started researching what it could be and have managed to scare myself into a fit of despair.

If anyone has had similar situations or can give any advice, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Cat-atonic

You say he doesn't eat much...has his appetite declined, or is that normal?  Anytime their appetite declines for more than just a meal or two, it's time to see a Vet.  It's very possible he has a hairball stuck in there, but it doesn't really sound like it or he'd probably be doing much than just kind of hiccuping.  I don't know what it is, but I agree that he should probably be seen by a professional
