My cat is nine years old and recently started having spasms that looked like hiccups. I thought it might just be a hairball issue but it's lasted for two days. It's definitely involuntary and most noticeable when he's laying down.

He doesn't eat very much although he still purrs and drinks water.

I of course started researching what it could be and have managed to scare myself into a fit of despair.

If anyone has had similar situations or can give any advice, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I posted this in another forum. Wasn't sure which one was appropriate.

That IS unusual, it really could be hiccups that aren't going away. but it also could be small seizures and should really be looked at by a vet. I agree with not researching things like this, it is NEVER good!  Getting him ready to go to the vet could scare him out of hiccups if that is what it is. Keep your post at the top like you are doing by posting a little bit periodically, it is VERY early in the morning here,(5 AM) but I'm sure someone will come on later who has experienced something like this. All the luck and let us know what you find out! Welcome to the site, and I hope you find the answer you are looking for!

Thanks for that. I had to take him to the ER last night. Waiting now.
