All I can say is that I've had three cats that this is totally acceptable for them. I think they also feel secure in there. They just want to be near you. We get to sleep without interruption.

Every cat is different. Mine have all hated any kind of confinement and get stressed and cry when I have to put them in a carrier. Kittens especially need to be able to move around and play, eat and use the litter box every few hours. Every cat is different though and there is no perfect solution for all, and I trust that Tink will see what works best for her cats. Maybe it will be neither of our suggestions :)

Cats by nature are inquisitive creatures, especially kittens. Let them roam, smell and see and after awhile, when they get use to it, they will kind of stop doing it. As long as you restrict them, the more they want to do it.
I let my boy roam free in the house. I catify and clean all the possible places I think that he will go to. Whenever we do something, he'll poke his inquisitive nose into it and we'll let him see and smell and just tell him just to watch only. Even our food he'll want to see and smell but he dosen't chomp on it. So he knows that that is the limit he can go. We never confine him.
It takes time and patience and love to teach your kitty and after he learns it, it's just very rewarding.

I know this is my bias and I own it--but I don't think cats or any animal should be caged or confined except for trips to the vet and recovery after surgery, Also in the case of people who foster ferals to socialize them for adoption, who may need to crate them during the process. I've socialized many ferals snd strays, and have never used crates or cages or confined in pet carriers fot rambunctious behavior. My cats are all very happy and live together peacefully (I currently have 5 rescued, 3 of whom were totally feral when I trapped and took them in). Patience, love and time is what is necessary for happy, well-behaved cats. Let your cats enjoy their kittenhood --it will end soon. Don't try to control all of their behavior. Respect their dignity and they will be your friends for life.

I agree. Growing up, nobody crated their dogs. Seems like it's very common now. Can't imagine crating or caging a cat. I know I would hate to be crated.

I do apologise for the delayed reply. We have just decided to let him be a kitten an do what kittens do best [emoji]128521[/emoji] he is so sweet and i love him dearly. I dot think he would like to be caged as he actually likes to be near me. He cries an co.es in an snuggles either on the bed or on the pillow on tbe floor. As for the blinds ive trialled vpiles instead downstairs then will do our bedroom too. He not overly fussed on them but only just put them up. He doesnt like that he cant get under them but he can see through them easier than the blinds so wel see how this goes. Hes really adorable. Usually more clingy if ive been with him all day hel cry if i go the loo an close the door lol.....its an amazing experience and every day is different with him! I appreciate all your help and replies xx

That's great to hear  Let the kitten own the space. Once he's been there done that, he'll proably won't be so exited about it anymore.

Tink84 needed a solution to her problem, not others expounding about their cats or 1001 reasons why it won't work. Confining a cat for a few hours while it sleeps is neither cruel nor mean. It takes away some anxiety for them and lets them rest peasefully. It becomes a routine like all others. If you don't like it because of your personal biase, then don't do it, but don't judge others. It's a wonder anyone would use this site.

You are doing a great job. After receiving advice, sometimes with differing viewpoints, we each need to make the decisions we feel are best for our cats. It sounds like you have a happy, loving kitten, and that's what matters :)

If you close them in there at night by shutting the carrier door, what do they do if they have to use the litter box or get hungry or thirsty? Or just want to play with their toys? That's my concern. If you leave the door open, then that's different. And no one was judging you or calling you mean. However, not everyone is going to agree with everyone else on these forums, and please don't take offense if they don't and wonder why anyone uses this site. We each offer own own experiences, and each cat is unique and responds differently to different circumstances. The thread starter has come to her own conclusions about how to handle her situation with her cat, and that's what's important. I'm not going to comment further on the subject. Peace.
