Hello everybody,

I got my girl Cotton, about 6 weeks ago, at first I used to feed her the same dry food which they used to feed her at the pet shop I bought her from. Then about 2 weeks ago, I started giving her a spoon of plain boiled chicken breast every few days (in addition to the dry food).

Last weekend I gave her wet food (for kittens) one is fish based and the other turkey, but now one of my friends is telling me to be careful, that her sister's cat became aggressive because of wet food, I told her that can't be true since everyone feeds cats wet food daily and it's meant for cats. She said she's not sure but her sister says the cat became aggressive because of too much meat.

Is there anything such as too much meat for a cat? Could it be that her sister meant red meat??

How much wet food is too much?

Cotton is now 3 months old, and she ways 1 kg (almost 2.2 lb)

Congratulations on your new kitten! We would love to see pictures!

I feel that aggression caused by too much meat is incredibly unlikely. There are a number of changes or disruptions in routine that can upset a cat or cause changes in behavior, but I don't think too much meat is one of them. Cats are carnivores and they need their meat! Their diet SHOULD be almost entirely meat.

Any food you give your kitten, dry or wet, should have an animal protein as the number 1 ingredient - preferably real meat and not a meal or bi-product.

Wet food ensures your kitten is getting enough moisture in her diet. Cats often don't drink enough and rely on their diet to get a sufficient amount of water. Plus, many affordable brands like Fancy Feast and Sheba have little to no grain.

I'm no nutrition expert, but as far as I know, kittens really can't each too much, especially at 12 weeks. With my foster kittens, I feed 3-4 small portions of wet food throughout the day and usually leave a high quality, grain-free kitten food out at all times for them to snack on.

2-ish pounds seems on the small side for a 12 week old kitten. I would let her eat as much as she wants. As she reaches maturity, you may have control her portions as her metabolism slows, but I wouldn't worry about overeating or too much wet food right now.

Again, I'm not an expert, so maybe someone else has some more specific input about portion size?

Thank you hilgenep,

Her vet was actually the one who recommended the chicken two to three times a week

. He said that her body is ok, but that if she gains a little more weight, she'd be better off.
