Hi, so I am currently at my mothers home and my mother says not to give the kitten her regular  canned food because than she will get ill or something. So the kitten is always hungry for some reason ( Yes i am feeding her canned food) but my mom gets mad at me for feeding the cat canned food so she is feeding her chicken, bread etc. and right now I came back and saw my mom giving the kitten milk from the jug and tortillas. The  cat has NEVER drank cow milk and I have heard that most cats are lactose intolerant I told my mother this and she hushed me and told me that she used to give her kittens milk and tortillas back in the day. I am very cautious towards what my kitten eats because she gets diarrhea very easily if she eats something her body is not use to. She literally just recovered from her diarrhea last week and now I am scared she will get it again and this time there is no vet near here.

I don't know what the deal is with your mom but she's feeding the cat food the cat SHOULDN'T be eating. You either need to explain it so your mom understands, or move the cat into your room & close the door. Cats don't eat bread products & yes cow's milk can give them diarrhea. The canned food you have is what's designed for her body. I hope it's some kind of kitten food. Giving her a small chunk of chicken, raw or cooked would be fine as long as there is no seasonings on it. Feeding her stuff like that, even chicken every day could cause diarrhea.

I'm staying at my parents house & a lot of times my dad will put his finger down to my cats with all sorts of crap on it. It makes me wonder what he does when I'm not around. He says a little taste won't hurt them, uh yeah if you give them the wrong thing it will!

Thank you for you answer! I tried pulling the kitten away from her drinking the milk but my mom slapped my arm and said that nothing will happen to her but I know it will because like I said everything gives her diarrhea.  When I go out the kitten some how manages to open the door and goes with my mom so she will feed her.  My mom yells at me for buying her only canned food because it is a waste of money and she needs to get used to eating human food (Even though I'm a grown adult that pays for the cats food). She is very ignorant and says it  a bunch of bull what the vet says

Goodness. Your mom really doesn't know much about what a cat should eat or not eat. My mom grew up on a farm & she said her little barn cats ate table scraps & anything else they could find. The difference is they were outside & could probably catch a bird or a mouse or something, This cat is inside & being fed junk food.

I don't know if you can stand up to your mom without pissing her off but she needs to understand it's your cat & that everything given to her needs to be approved by you. If you explain she has a sensitive stomach & that feeding her this crap will only make it worse, maybe she'll get it. How are you going to ever leave? Won't you wonder what your cat's eating when you're gone? I would!

Kittens don't develop lactose intolerance until they are adult cats, so the milk won't harm her for now. But the table scraps should be off limits, especially bread and tortillas. Tell your mother that the canned cat food is formulated just for cats, and your kitten doesn't need to learn to eat human food. Since you are paying for it, she should have no say in it.

Your mother absolutely needs to stop.  It's your cat, end of story.  Do keep her in your room.

How much wet food are you feeding per day?  Do you leave dry down too?  She shouldn't be hungry.

Well the poor kitty got diarrhea and I told my mom that she can't feed her that stuff again. Hopefully she understands. I'm only here for one more week
