My kitten has a uri (and is getting medication), but he's also had diarrhea recently. I'm not sure if it's because I changed his water? I first gave him water that I drink from wholes food (we fill up gallons of water and bring them home). Buuuut I was then told cats should only drink purified water so I've been giving him nestle pure life bottle water (purified). We don't have a water filter at home so I haven't tried that and I heard tap isn't the best for cats. Any response would be helpful. Thanks. (Also taking him to the vet this week about his diarrhea to rule out any medical issues and see what he has to say about it)

Anything other than tap water. I give filtered water to my cats, whatever I drink, they drink.

May I ask why?  I suppose it depends on country and the quality.  The swedish tap water is renown for its good quality, so this question is in part new to me.

Raw goat milk is not only good nourishment, but also has some anti inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties - not strong but more than nil.

They say coldpressed cocoa oil, organic style, has it too.  But just one or two drops - oil is also a natural anti-constipation remedy...

Yes, each part of the country has different water. In fact, each city in each state has their own water supply. I live in a pretty good sized city & there are 3 water systems that I know of. Frankly I don't trust the government to know what safe drinking water is, they put fluoride & chlorine in the water for one thing, I don't want to drink those chemicals. But compared to other countries, I'm glad we can get the water in our mouth, for brushing teeth & not have to use bottled water for that.

You're lucky, you guys have clean everything there.

Most US tap water is very safe; tap water quality regulations are very strict. If you have doubts you can ask for a copy of their annual analysis too see what's in it. There's no way to make river water safe for sending through your pipes without adding chemicals :dk:. The US doesn't have many glaciers to melt for pure water ;). Also there's no regulation on bottled water, most of it is just tap water filtered for taste.

But if you really want to avoid tap water, the water you get at Whole Foods is probably best. That's local tap water (which has already been treated for safety) run through an RO machine and a few other filters. It's almost certainly better quality than any bottled water you could buy. Also, if the water is in the bottle for long, plastic leaches into the water. I use store-machine refill water for myself, too, for taste, but the pets get tap water :D.
