Hello all, I am new to this site and this is my first thread, but I have many questions. Just one for this thread though :)

I recently adopted a year and 7 month old cat from the shelter and I am not sure what they have been feeding him, but he looks healthy. Anyways, I recently bought a bag of Purina Cat Chow Indoors  dry food and it will not eat it. My question is: should I just leave the food in the bowl until it eats it? Will he eventually eat it? Or should I just give up and try something new? I have tried to mix it with wet food, but no go. I do try to feed him wet food everyday along with dry, pretty much 50/50.

I believe they feed him natural balance because they gave him to me with a free bag. Should I continue to feed him what they always gave him? I have read that there are much better products in natural balance's price range..

Purina cat chow is not very good food at all. Continue feeding him what they were feeding him until he is a bit more settled in. Then you can switch him to something else if you'd like. I would look for a food with meat as the first ingredient.

Good wet foods are also important. I feed my cats half dry food and half wet (in different meals).

Are you saying that they won't like it because it's not good food? I understand not feeding it to them because it has bad ingredients.

Its cheap food ok let say u buy a 10lb bag of cat chow and natural balance you are going to go threw the cat chow faster hes gonna be more hungry becouse of the cheaper fillers, its like you eating Mac Donalds its not very filling

that makes a lot of sense. I need to learn more about fillers and other ingredients.

I suggest feeding high quality wet food only. I have three cats and I used to feed them dry kibble too, but I started doing research only to find out that dry food is not so good for them.
So I switched them over to good quality wet food 2X a day.
The transition for my cats was very easy Bc they highly enjoy the wet food. And I also buy different brands and different flavors so they don't get bored eating the same thing every day.
Try and look into starting a wet food diet and see how it goes. It's easier for them to digest too.
Another thing I've noticed since switching over is that my cats barely throw up anymore. Before they would vomit at least a few times a week. So that's definitely saying something!
Good Luck! :)
