For years my cat has been a puker. Sometimes it hair balls but more often, it's foamy of slimy. Today, she has been not herself since she has been puking all day. She lays by the water dish and drinks water. She just got up and moaned and puked up a bunch of water. All of this is has been normal for her. One visit to the vet he said it was a UTI but this is every week. Help??

Our cat has started pucking every so often. She had a case of tape worms and we took her to vet and she got a shot. She was pucking long before she had the tape worms. What could be the cause? She seems fine other wise.

It could be the type of food she is being fed. Ensure she is given high quality cat food (w/o grains & dyes).

Are you noticing any other strange symptoms? What's her energy level? What's her coat like? Whats the frequency of the vomiting? Is she puking after eating and/or using the litter box? Is she bloated? Gently fell her belly, do you feel anything hard? Is she repetitively licking a specific area? Does she guard an area of her body? Does she ever puke up her food? What's her stools like?

A cat I adopted from the shelter had this problem, and her prognosis was not good. Not to scare you, but she had lymphoma, and died within 6 months. Lymphoma has been connected to the cat's diet. It is so important to give them quality food.

The puking could be due to a chronic problem. One that comes to mind is a thyroid problem. They should test her thyroid. If it's a thyroid issue that's relatively easy to treat.

I think you should take her to the vet (either the same one or different vet). Write down ALL her s/s (signs and symptoms), the frequency of the puking, a description of the puking. the length of time she has been puking (# of years), what you are feeding her, her appetite level, etc.

Be prepared to pay for labs. Based on s/s they may test her thyroid too. They may also want an x-ray and ultrasound to be thorough.

I KNOW it's expensive. I would look into affordable vet care in your area. There are some really blessed and talented vets out there that try to charge affordable prices. They may not test all of those things at once. Depending on the cat's s/s they may want to go with an x-ray first. It really depends.

Your cat is in my prayers!

xoxo,

Please keep us updated

Your kitty needs another visit to the vet. There are multiple health issues that could be the cause...IBD, food allergy, kidney disease, pancreatitis, dental issues...

The chronic vomiting is not normal and with your girl laying by the water bowl, it sounds like she is nauseated.

How old is she? When was her last vet visit? Did the vet to a full physical exam (meaning head to tail...check ears, eyes, teeth, palpate abdomen)? What was done at that visit? Wheb was the last time she had blood work or a urinalysis done?

pancreatitis and IBS came to mind first.  a small dose of a steroid or an anti nausea med from the vet can help quite a bit.

Puking isn't normal at all. What are you feeding? How old is this cat? Absolutely need a vet visit with a full blood work up.

I recently changed to a food for sensitive stomach. Both of my cats like it but my one cat that has always been a puker, puked with the new food. My cat is about three. Happy go lucky cat.
