Check out this story...

If Anne Frank Only Knew (60 minutes)

I have to say I spent most of the story sitting there with my mouth open.

I read Anne Franks Diary in English once... personally I found it depressing , but that's even more depressing. If Anne Frank Only knew...

Tess...this is horrific! It is amazing how someone can take the message of peace that we see in Anne Frank's diary, and turn it ito a message of hate and fear.

Quote:
Here's a quote from the article that made my skin crawl:

North Korea is using her diary, not to teach how Anne suffered at the hands of the German Nazis, but to warn the students how they could suffer at the hands of those they call "American Nazis." Correspondent Mike Wallace reports.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
â€After reading this book, I had a hatred for the American imperialists,†says one student.

“That warmonger Bush is just as bad as Hitler. Because of him we will always live in fear of war,†says another student.

Oh Good Lord, this chilled me to the bone:

"The students are also being taught that war with America is inevitable!"

Watching that report really made me feel ill.

But while these children of the elite sing of their leader in Pyongyang, youngsters in the countryside are starving, reveal pictures that were smuggled out of North Korea by a German doctor. According to the World Food Program, almost half of North Korea's children under the age of 7, suffer from chronic malnutrition. But not the children of the establishment in Pyongyang.

“I’m certain that thanks to our beloved Gen. Kim Jung Il, we will never experience hunger like Anne did,†says one boy.

Another student read from the diary: “Why is there hunger when food rots away elsewhere? Why are people so crazy?â€

When Bartelsman asked students if they could answer Anne's question, again their teacher told them just what to say: “Why isn't food distributed everywhere? Because the imperialist bourgeoisie take it -- that's why there is nothing left for the proletariat. Just say that.â€

The student’s response: “Food is taken by the imperialist bourgeoisie, which is why there is nothing left for the proletariat.â€
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apparently, these students don't know that in
their socialist paradise, up to a million people are now held in slave labor camps. But thanks to Anne Frank, they do know a lot about Nazi concentration camps.

Do they think that concentration camps like that still exist?

“Yes, I think such camps still exist. As long as there are American Nazis, there will be secret places where innocent people are murdered,†says one student. “Places like that exist in America. The prisons in America are comparable to concentration camps.â€

And this man has nuclear weapons...

That's the scary part of it... The soviets may have been bad, but they were not crazy... this guy is.

Every leader has a few people behind that hold him from doing something that stupid. My faith that they will adhere to the MAD theory is in those folks who are behind his chair, for if you leave Crazy Kim alone he would have probably fired them long ago.

That's sobering. It is difficult to hear that viewpoint of your own country and yourself, really.

Talk about Propaganda! Scary how easy it is to shape the minds of young people, and how a piece of literature can be skewed to have any meaning. Of course, I'm sure they don't tell these children that Bush may not be President after next year, and even if he is re-elected he can only be President for 4 years after that. So much for the reign of the new Hitler...

The other really scary part of this is the inevitability of war with the US. Sounds like a self-fulfilling prophesy to me, which puts a whole different light on the "negotiations" currently in progress about the nuclear weapons program of North Korea.

You said it. I think that even at the height of the Cold War, most Eastern Europeans didn't have such extreme beliefs about the U.S., and vice-versa. Ditto China under Mao. It's bloodchilling.

The whole thing is just so twisted - Anne Frank's work, her legacy, being used for hatemongering.

brain washing in it's highest form - this is so twisted!

I saw Madelaine Albright speak a few months back and she talked about meeting Kim Jung. She said that the most difficult thing to get thru to him is that the U.S. is not weak because we reelect our officials every 4 years. He just doesn't fathom that concept and never will. So why tell the kids this fact when the leader doesn't get it?

Scary article. Sounds like he is preparing his country for a war with the U.S.

!!!!! Oh my gosh, this made me sick to my stomach!

“Our students will fight with a pen in one hand and a weapon in the other until the last American is dead,†adds another student.

These poor North Korean kids are so sheltered they don't realise half the stuff they acuse us Americans of, is happening right there in their own country!

Do they think that concentration camps like that still exist?

Little do they know most prisoners here are treated better then low income/no income families. They have fresh food, a warm bed, showers, tv, books. They even have those programs where you can keep a dog to train them!

I just wish I could go there and tell them how they are being abused, but I might be murdered if anyone found out...
There is just so much wrong with this that I don't even know what to say, I mean, really, not only Americans, but so many other countries don't want to go to war, we don't take pleasure in it, just ask all the families with children in Iraq, and now going to Haiti. I wish there was a simple answer to all this, but really there isn't, with horrible people like Kim Jung II around we can't make this world better...

I don't remember who said this, perhaps James Baker, but one of our politicians, when asked to describe North Korea and its leader, said, "Just....absolutely wifty". It certainly sounds that way.

There's serious mental illness in that presidential family for sure, given that his father was equally bizarre. There was also the kidnapping of those Japanese teenagers years ago, in an effort to learn Japanese 'mannerisms' in the event that they had to infiltrate Japan in self-defense. Sadly, people there starve to death while their leaders are raving.

Is Buddy Elias going to do anything about this?

He was the one that gave the rights for Anne's diary to be published and now that it has become clear that the effort to educate and promote peace have been turned on its head, perhaps he could say something publicly, and not to mention clearly so that it cuts through the propoganda.
