Well 99% of the time it is canned food at lunch. They get dry the other times and canned once a day.  There are times he can go a week with no episodes and others times he throws up lunch back to back, or one day is fine. The next throws up the canned food. i have written it down it not always the same flavor, its not the ones with fish.  He gets EL once a day with the canned food, I even stopped that to see if it was the problem. He gets a book under his bowl and plate. Spread it out so he doesnt eat to fast.

When he throws up the canned food there is always some dry left that hasnt digested. He gets 1/4 cup of dry at 7am. The 1.2oz of canned at 2pm. I have even give to him at 2:30 and even one day at 2:45 still threw up.  I even gave him a little less food in the morning and didnt seem to make a difference.

Could it be the food is not fully digesting? I have 7 cats so its hard to feed them any later then 2.

Not sure why the same food could cause a problem one day an not the next time.

I dont have money to take him to the vet for tests. Im trying to pin point and eliminate things at home, at least first. I hate to put him on an all dry diet. But im tempted to see if it makes a difference. Though he does throw up that occasionally. Anything else I could try?

Are you feeding the same BRAND canned food all the time, just different flavors and textures?  If so,w hat brand, so we can look up the basic ingredients?  And is there any flavorand/or texture that he throws up more than others?  Fish is not the only ingredient that is a common issue among cats.

How old is this cat? Kibble is harder to digest than wet food, which is probably why you're seeing it come up undigested. Any hairballs? What brands are you feeding? Have you tried eliminating the kibble to see if that's the issue?

Yes they will all eat 5 flavors of Fancy Feast.(all pate) So thats what I give them at lunch.  Beef, chicken & liver, chicken feast, chicken & beef and chopped grill.

yesterday they had beef and he he kept it down. Today he threw up breakfast,(which doesnt happen often) I give them dry with a little water. They eat it right away and the bowls get picked up to be washed. So it doesnt sit out.  I gave him some dry at about 10am (seeing he threw up breakfast) and 2:30 had chicken and liver. Kept it down.

It's probably the type of wet food you're feeding. Chopped grill isn't pate, and anything non-pate has a ton of wheat gluten in it. The "best" fancy feast are the classic line only. Have you tried just feeding one flavor, like the chicken? Or the beef if that's well tolerated? However, many cats don't tolerate beef. You might look at trying to incorporate some higher quality wet foods in your rotation.

Some cats can't tolerate chicken or fish in canned food. What dry food are you feeding?

But would they throw it up only sometimes? he can go days without throwing up or some days. he throws it up 2 days back to back.

The chopped grill is pate. I only feed pate. Im not sure there is one of the 5 flavors he hasnt thrown up. I would have to check the log. Dry food is currently Good natured. but he has had others before and still had the problem. when i first started giving him wet food at lunch, It seemed if he ate to much. he would throw up. So i made sure he didnt eat any leftovers, off others plates. Hairballs seemed to be a problem. But he hasnt had any since giving him EL. So i assume they are not. Ive gone back and forth trying to see if he was getting to hungry and not hungry on the days he would throw up. cant figure out why it happens some days, not others and mostly canned food.

the other day I gave him dry at lunch, and canned at 6pm. he still through up the canned.

Since you're rotating food, keep a log of what you're feeding and when he throws up. That way you can work to eliminate the flavors that don't agree with his system.  We did this once for one of our cats and figured it was the fish flavors that caused her to toss.  Stopped the fish flavors and had no more problems.

Thats what i did. He has thrown up all 5 flavors. But has also kept all 5 down. ;/

I have to update that he made a liar out of me today. Threw up breakfast(dry food) kept lunch down (canned) threw up dinner(dry food)that had a hairball.  he rarely throws up hairballs so im not sure that is the problem.

So this is why Im puzzled

Then it's time to look at the brands of food you're feeding.  Something is not agreeing with him.  Has there been a time when he's not thrown up wet food?  What were you feeding him?  What exactly are you feeding him now wet & dry brands?  You might need to look at something such as duck & Pea to help calm his system.

I have been meaning to update. As He is still having a problem with vomiting up (mostly his 2pm feeding)which is canned food. I noticed today he was acting like he had to chew his food. making a smacking noise. Even though its pate. I even added a bit of water. hoping thinner would be easier. He threw up on the 5th, with a large hairball. And the 4th. was fine for over a week. Threw up on the 25th of Nov. Before that was the 20th, which was dry food at 11pm.  No rhyme or reason.  he is healthy otherwise.

I have tried a book under his plate and bowls. Spreading it out  on the plate. he doesnt eat to fast. I actually think its when he eats slow when he throws up,  as maybe he isnt that hungry.  Ive tried feeding he later. and has thrown up still. So not sure thats the problem.

How long after he's eating is he vomiting? My oldest cat has been battling hairballs/motility issues (common in some older cats) and vomiting some undigested food about 5 hours after he eats (early AM vomits after his late PM snack). I've been giving him egg yolk lecithin, which is making a huge difference. This may be something you want to try, too. Here's more info. Cats like the taste of egg yolk lecithin too, it's easy to add as a topper to wet food.

within 10 minutes. I do give him EL everyday with the canned food. I think it does help with hairballs. But still throws up food.  He has had the problem for awhile. It always seemed he threw up if he ate more off someone elses plate. So I make sure he doesnt. But he still has days he cant keep it down.

Vomiting soon after eating is usually more of an intolerance. Perhaps trying a different canned food or a different protein.
