I am on a fixed income and between litter and food I spend $150.00 dollars a month not including the cost of special can food for 2 of my unhealthy and old cats plus can food for all my other cats. I can't afford this anymore. I love them all so much and just by looking at all of their faces I cry because they probably feel they did something wrong and didn't. I gave my kitchen and livingroom to my cats. I have to put up plastic runners on all of my walls because I am trying to protect the destruction of them and their nails ruining my walls. I can't have furniture in either room. I can't bring nobody into my house ever because of the bad smell. I do what I can to keep both rooms clean and I still have a Barn smell. I have 35 cats all relatives, all related. I live in Hillsborough county tampa florida and I don't know where to take them. I got all of them spayed and nutered. I won't go to the Humane Society of tampa on Armenia ave because they deliberately murdered my beautiful natalina. I have proof. I won't take them to a shelter that kills animals because they all have a right to live. They are good kee kees. I feel so sad and I feel like I am committing a sin. Somebody please help me. Tell me what to do and where to take them. Some are friendly others are afraid of people. I have some handicap kee kees, some deformed. Somebody please guide me to the right road to go. I can't afford them anymore. They are all my children and I have to say good bye.

You are in a tough situation. The Humane Society tends to be either really good or pretty bad. I've heard other horror stories about them. I'm sorry that you had to go through that.

I'm in Florida also but I'm on the east coast. I did a search and these people might be able to help you. If they cannot, they might be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck.

Hi. I read some of your other posts. Are you saying you have 7 litter boxes and 35 cats? This may be a large part of the problem. I would also try giving them more space. 35 cats in two rooms is far too crowded.

I totally appreciate that you are trying to do the right thing for your cats! This would help, though, in the meantime.

Young ones have a good chance finding homes. Try and use community websites. I have had success with Craigslist and Nextdoor to find suitable homes. The ones that need special care may be more difficult. If it was me I'd try and keep those ones. Try to adopt out bonded pairs or keep bonded pairs.

Just a big tip wherever you advertise.  Please don't say "free to a good home".  Please charge something like say at least, I don't know, $20?  There are people who use cats and kittens as bait.  It sickens me to even say more, but I think you get my drift.  Anyway I think they look for free kitties.  So please be careful because I'm sure you want your babies to go to the best homes.  I would insist on information, driver's license and phone number and address.  Help me out everyone else.  What else should she ask potential adopters to screen properly?

Oh I couldnt agree more. Yes. Thats what to do. Re-home them on Craigs List. Its a good place to find people that look for cats to adopt.
You might have to wait a month or two while you slowly get a taker here and there, but you can find interested folks by advertising there. Yes.

Also you may end up meeting the people here and there in life who rescue animals. They are special loving souls who do this, and could certainly be trusted to take a cat or two you cant keep. (probably not all of them, but the point is ...you will have to try here there and everywhere you can to re-home these one at a time (though Kittylove14's advice to adopt out bonded pairs is good and compassionate thinking). So..yea, a bit of diligent work for a month or even three perhaps getting this done.

Adult cats are harder to rehome. Its not impossible, it just takes more time. But you can get this done. My heart goes out to you. I know it must be heartbreaking to be in your position, but you'll probably just have to keep telling yourself it's the best thing to do for them. So at least you know you did the best for them. You dont have to feel guilty for that. And you'll cry it out no doubt, and keep pictures if you got them, and move on, knowing they at least all went to good homes.

Good luck to you with all of this. You must be a good person for trying to take care of so many cats. But I do agree with the suggestion that 35 cats with only 7 litter boxes isnt going to be good for them, or being all in two rooms. Perhaps you could keep a couple of them though? Nothin' wrong with having two or three cats. Even four. Maybe the ones that would be hardest to re-home could stay with you? And then they will have more space and a litter box to themselves, as well as keep you company, so you dont have to just lose every friend you got?

Please screen carefully, even if you do use Craigslist or whatever.  I hesitate to even say this but if I don't I will feel awful if I don't and something happens, but there was a cat killer from NJ (he moved to Delaware and now has left his current place) who shopped for cats on Craigslist.  Please be aware that these things do happen. :(( I hate it!  But everyone needs to be informed!

hi @Love4Animals  I'm sorry that you find yourself in such a desperate situation.

Do you need to re-home all of the cats or just some of them? The fact that they are all spayed and neutered is going to make things a lot easier. It will be difficult to find new homes for your older cats and for the ones with special needs, but I think that even if you can re-home some of them it will make things a lot better for you.

Is there any possibility of making an outdoor enclosure for some of the cats? I think the smell and the litter box problems comes from over-crowding. If you could make a secure enclosure in your back yard or on your deck then the cats would have more space.

7 average sized litter boxes is nowhere near enough. I understand that you can't have one litter box for each cat, but how about using a child's paddling pool as a giant litter box for some of them  to use?

I've also heard bad things about advertising on Craig's List. I managed to re-home some kittens from the colony I TNR'd by putting posters up in the vet's waiting room. Post Office and supermarket notice boards would be another good place to try.

Please keep us updated on how things work out.

Thank you for helping me but i think i will try nextdoor because craigslist here in Hillsborough county is always on the news for scams. Also a lot of haters sending hate mail and hate comments. I joined craigslist for 5 days joined the forums and I deactivated my account because I don't need to hear hate sent to me.

Where I live here in florida it is against the law to charge money for giving cats away so I have been told by a vet. I might still do that anyway because then I know they will love and take care of them.

I don't have a police record in any state I lived nor do I have traffic citations/tickets but if I ever seen anybody kill a animal I would have to go to jail maybe prison because I strongly dislike people(SICK low lifes) that torture, and are cruel and kill animals.

I have to get rid of 30 and I will keep the handicap cats I have. I know what it feels like not to be wanted and nobody would want them.

I really recommend that you contact the shelter that @Kat0121  mentioned above. You don't have to reach any agreement with them just yet. You could just ask if they would be willing to take a few of your cats, or help you re-home them.

They might have volunteers who could help you with cleaning and other things to make your home situation more comfortable.

No harm in asking for help, right?

:yeah: I absolutely agree that a shelter is they best way to go. They'll be very experienced in these matters, and really are best placed to give you the help you need

I know this is such a tough decision, but you're doing the right thing :hugs: I wish you and your cats all the luck in the world :vibes:

@Love4Animals  , I think it is great what a good heart you have for your cats.  I don't know about re-homing cats, but I know there are lots of people here that can understand your dedication to these kitties.  Even if the St. Francis place can simply give you some information or answer a few of your questions, it will be information under your belt that you can use in deciding who to deal with, at your own choosing (I know however this is so difficult to go through and you would never choose to go through this)!    I am sorry I can only help by sending you hugs and encouragement, but I admire your love for your cats.  Is the re-homing something that can be done little by little?  You are in my thoughts and prayers that one small piece of information will lead you somewhere, then to more help for you and that you take comfort in knowing how good you have been to these cats.  Please keep us posted how you are doing.
