Hello everyone!

A couple of months ago I joined this forum to ask for help with my cat--who had become pregnant.  All three kittens are healthy and homed and dad has been fixed--mom's appointment is soon.  Now I have a new problem.

When I first got my two cats I lived away from home, and when I would come to town to visit they seemed fine with my parents' dog.  He's a very calm animal, keeps to himself, isn't very hyper.  They were also okay with my brother's dog, who is the exact opposite of my parent's; always jumping and yipping and overly excited about everything.

I had to move back in with my parents to save some money for my next semester of college.  At first it was easy to keep the cats and dogs separate, but once the kittens got to be 2 months old they were getting anxious and antsy.  We set up baby gates so they could roam the entire upstairs, but if either dog got close to the stairs, momma cat would climb the baby gates and attack them.  Now it's to the point that my parents' dog hides in the laundry room if he hears a cat collar jingle.  My first question is advice for that, because I'm at a loss.  My cat had always been so calm before, to see her acting like that--even biting me when I've tried to separate them--really concerns me.

My next question is a bit more pressing.  My boyfriend's house recently changed owners and the rent is skyrocketing, so he and his roommate have to move out.  They can't, however, find another landlord that will let them keep my boyfriend's dog.  He's a six month old puppy, and pretty energetic.  He's the stupidest dog I've ever seen, and wouldn't harm anything intentionally.  Not knowing how else to help I offered to look after the puppy for a while, hoping to get my cats introduced.  (We've been dating for a while and if things continue to go well they would have to be introduced eventually anyway.)  But after seeing the aggression with our other dog, I'm worried.

Is there anything I can do to smooth over the introductions?  I already know that it's going to take a lot of time, but I'd really like for things to work out.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!  Please help

I haven't had to introduce cats to dogs so I can't give any specific advice.  We have an article that might give you some tips to get started on the process.
