Ideas to vary flavor in recipes?

There was a sale at the store on ground turkey so I bought a lot (filled my freezer to the brim), and I'm trying to come up with some ways to make different "flavors" because I don't want my kitten to get bored.

She looooves  vegetables for some reason, begging like crazy especially for pumpkin and squash, so I'm thinking of mixing maybe 1 tablespoon in with her food to make it different from just turkey. Do you have any thoughts on mixing some canned tuna in with a batch? I usually don't feed her much fish because I'm worried about mercury, so it would probably be just enough to make it taste different.

Any other ideas? I know I should be mixing her proteins as well as "flavor" but the deal was too good to pass up and I don't have any room left in my small apartment freezer. I will get her on a different protein when this one runs out.

...with the cats...
you could try using different 'toppers'. i use freeze dried chicken treats, crumbled, as toppers for my cats meals. but you could also crumble or grind up (in a food processor) some various brands/flavors of cat treats that your kitten enjoys.

are you serving raw or home-cooked? and, are you balancing the meat/bones/organs and using any nutritional supplement (like Alnutrin, etc)?

Toppers are a great idea, thanks.

Home cooked with EZcomplete. They say not to add an extra source of calcium or secreting organs. We're still transitioning from canned food to home made.

(Yes, I have heard the arguments about raw vs cooked and I did hours of research before making my decision.)

Double check the turkey to make sure that it hasn't been ehanced or seasoned in any way with broth or herbs or sodium solutions or vinegar or anything. Some brands of pre ground turkey contain extra stuff that a cat doesn't need and could even be harmful. I recently bought ground turkey that contained rosemary extract and broth.

You can add toppers to each serving of food. If your cat likes pumpkin, you can try a little canned pumpin puree or something like Weruva's Pumpkin Patch Up supplement.

I mix meats together. Like if I feed turkey or chicken plain for awhile, I'll take a little beef, venison or lamb out & put with the chicken or turkey. My cats seems to like meat mixes.

Same with our cats: I make homecooked food using various combinations and proportions of meats, varying the cuts, too, so there are different kinds of pork, chicken, and turkey. The only constant is that it all has to be shredded because that's what one cat prefers. Neither of our cats is very enthusiastic about ground meat in the food, whether it's in clumps or tiny pieces.

hmmm my cats like shredded meat as well. Since I've been buying meat I've just been putting it out raw for them. I should try cooking it & then shredding it. It's just another step, more to do!

msserena  I like your idea of adding other meats to it as well, maybe on the top or mixed in.

I've done hours of research on my cat's food, LTS3, I would never buy her something inappropriate. A side point, rosemary is not bad for cats at all unless they have a sensitivity to it. I see a lot of fear around things like that but it won't hurt them to have it.

I didn't mean to offend you or imply that you are feeding something inappropriate I only said to double check the meat because it's all to easy to be in a rush at the store or distracted and not pay attention to labels and sometimes what is on sale may have the same packaging of what one normally buys but is slightly different because of the broth or flavorings or vingear or whatnot in the meat. The ground meat I bought to cook for my dinner, not to feed the cats with, had rosemary extract and broth in it and I didn't realize it at the time. That was all.
