Today my wonderful baby got a stroke. He was paralyzed, and probably confused, meowing loudly and tried to jump out of the box, but relaxed under the blankets. We had him for 15 years. No other cat was like him. We put him to sleep because we didn't want him in pain, and if we kept him alive, he'd be in a lot more pain.
The injection was peaceful, he relaxed and "fell asleep". It was still pretty sad. This is the cat that slept beside me, on me, etc, when I was feeling down. His fur was very soft, even though he couldn't groom himself during his final days.
He also weighed under ten pounds during those times, due to the fact he couldn't eat or drink properly. I guess he could tell we were worried for him. He ended up eating more than he had in the past few days. I have to admit, this is about the hardest thing I've ever done. When I do get another cat, nothing else will be able to match him. He is a loving and friendly cat.
Rest in peace, 2001-2016, Smokey Murray. May you have a great time in the afterlife.
