My girlfriend and I found an aboandon kitten last night. She's very playful has sharp claws and teeth and ate some canned food and drank some water all in all seems healthy. I'm wondering if anyone can tell how old she might be, if she can poop on her own, if I need to go get kitten formula or will she be OK eating canned food. No throw up or diarrhea yet but I don't think she's pooped or peed at all. Just found her at 10pm last night.

The kitten looks about 6 weeks old. It should be fine eating wet food and dry kitten chow. It can go pee and poop on its own now too. Just provide a litter box nearby and show it to the kitten.

Thanks for rescuing it! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

yes, 5-6 weeks, should manage on canned or even dry cat food. We in Sweden use often minced meat - but not pork.

If you can get goats milk its always nice - although not strictly necessary.

Be sure the litter is non clumping - small kittens, alike babies, may taste virtually anything  - and we dont want clumping litter inside of them.

Very good age for easy fostering, even if she is probably outside born.

The color, more chokolade than black isnt that common.

What an adorable baby! Thank you for being awesome and saving her :) I agree with the others, looks 4-6 weeks to me, so canned kitten food should be fine. My vet told me about Whiska's kitten milk that you can add to the canned food or just give separately for them to lap up. She said it has extra vitamins to help with their growth. I found some at my local grocery store. Here's a like to the product: https://www.chewy.com/whiskas-cat-m...iKecAm-YSxChhw8jkL4woxoCQDzw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Personally I would not give Whiskas cat milk to a young kitten - it lacks many of the nutrients of any real milk and is really meant as a treat. A kitten 5/6 weeks old could still get proper kitten formula (kmr available at vets or pet shops) or goat milk, as they would normally still be nursing some from their mom, but they do not necessarily need it. The Whiskas might fill them up without adding some necessary nutrients.

If you dont have anything better, this product may be useful, so the vet wasnt wrong. The point is, if you can get goat milk or some decent kmr, both are better, as JennyR said.
